A player from Massachusetts was hurt after a hit on the ice in January. After missing five weeks of school, he's back and playing lacrosse, but that's not good enough for his parents, who are seeking to press criminal charges on the player who delivered the hit (which actually doesn't seem that bad).

Seriously, do I live in Bizarro World? The funny part is that the news team showed the hit to some of the people in the community, and not one said it was bad enough to press charges.

This argument may be my most hated argument that comes up whenever charges are talked about due to something that happened in a game, regardless of sport.

""If this [check] was off the rink, on a public way, that is gross, negligent assault and battery," Jay Mullen, the attorney representing Thomas and Sheila Hannon, told the Patriot Ledger.

It wasn't on the street. It was a borderline hit that was within the realm of a contact sport. It is a sport, injuries happen. There is a risk to playing them. If you don't agree with that risk, find a different sport. This wasn't Bertuzzi stalking Steve Moore, or McSorely taking a baseball swing a Brashear's head. It is unfortunate, but that is the extent of it. You cannot apply the laws of society within the bounds of a sport. If you did we would lose hockey, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, rugby, lacrosse, boxing, MMA and a number of other sports.

About as soon as you posted that, Gator, a magistrate hearing the case refused to bring charges.

And for at least one day, we can say sanity reigns in one corner of th legal system.

Yeah, the dad sounds like a real winner. He said court could have been avoided had the school responded to his request to have the kid suspended. It just seemed they were on a mission, and ultimately, the family of the victim looks like a bunch of pussies and douchbags.

I just wonder about the kid who got hit. He's got to be completely mortified, right? And kudos to the kid to delivered the hit, who sounded pretty genuine in his apology. I would have gone all Ivan Drago: "If he dies, he dies."

The kid plays football, hockey and lacrosse. Probably the the three most violent sports and he suffered a serious concussion in the fall.

It's the other kid's fault. For sure. ::)
