I can understand the instinct, but that beach is well known for being treacherous.

The mom and dad died at the scene after a ranger tried CPR. The 16-year-old boy is lost at sea and the search has been called off. The 18-year-old daughter who saw all this happen is going to have a rough life.

The family couldn't do something less risky with the dog — like skydiving.

Sorry dog lovers. But if it's a choice between Fido and myself or a family member, bye-bye poochie.

I was on the SF coastline this weekend and thought of our 1 yr old Australian Shepard and letting him run in the surf someday (not yet); question I was wondering was whether dogs instinctively know how to swim in the ocean or whether training was needed. I guess I'll ask our dog boarder.

What a tragedy. Many my wishes go out to the daughter. We love our two dogs but yeah, that's tough. 10 Foot waves though? Those are huge (in SF only 4 ft waves.)
