Buddy of mine who used to be a crime reporter has the most sensible theory of all this I've seen. He thinks it was a robbery gone wrong, not a planned kidnapping. He also thinks she was probably murdered that night and they hid the body.

I don’t understand Bitcoin and really don’t care to since I’m never to need to use it. But, if I tell someone to give me a Bitcoin, don’t I have to give them an account number or some way to ensure it goes to me and not someone else? I don’t understand how such a transaction cannot be tracked by electronic experts. Please explain.

Most criminals are sophisticated enough to move fast enough to hide their IDs. The bad guys who are good at it have a plan that is basically: the ransom hits and then is immediately dispersed to hundred or thousands of other bitcoin wallets in near real time.

Random. She's an old lady, lives by herself in a nice house in a nice part of town. Anyone would assume she probably had something valuable in there.

Even then, since it’s on the blockchain, it can be traced. Now if they moved it to the right wallets in the right nations, they’ll never be arrested. But the authorities can still track it.

If you have cell service, the ones that immediately upload to the cloud may be a better option. Otherwise you need to secure those trail cams so they can’t be tampered with.

We have about 30 of them on our hunting property. We use the cellular ones to watch for trespassers more than deer, bear or hogs. Put them up high so they won’t be as noticeable and angle them so you can see under a hat brim as they walk up.

I have mined our front yard and other areas around the perimeter. If I remember, I tell friends where the mines are before they drop by. Discourages surprise visits for sure.

It sounds like they cross-referenced phone location use, google search and a bitcoin account and the guy they pulled in was the result. He was a delivery driver who likely delivered a package to the address at some point, had a bitcoin account and wanted to learn more about the case.
It has to be someone who has been inside the house before, right?
And we're not even talking about someone with the ability to spoof a phone, hack someone's internet, or mask bitcoin.

The only person I can think of with motive is....Hoda Kotb! I imagine Today was getting a ratings spike already with the Olympics, but this has to be ridiculous. There were a few at NBC back in the day who accused ABC of milking Robin Roberts cancer treatments to overtake the Today show. Well, that and Lauer being exposed as a total predator.

We are probably not far away from an influencer jumping in on one of these sensational missing person type cases, planting fake evidence, reporting fake leads, and inside info from "sources" just to goose their follower numbers. Imagine if influencers were around during OJ.

I get why people are interested in this. I’m just not one of those people. I don’t think this should be daily headline news.

Don’t know if that’s a weakness on my part in terms of limited empathy and not really giving a **** or a strength in that I’m somewhat immune to getting sucked into something that doesn’t affect my own life one iota. Probably a bit of both columns A and B.
