They're at it again.

I just got an e-mail from MLB.com/Monster.com asking me if I "have what it takes to work in the Big Leagues."

I've cold called, e-mailed, snail mailed, almost beg and pleaded for a gig at MLB.com before (four of the five past years to be honest).

I've also submitted resumes via Monster.com as per this "reuqest."

They've never been hiring from what I've discovered in the past.

Anyone know if there are openings for the 2008 season?

Don't know if they have openings for 2008, but I do know they hired one of their interns last year. So, they might like to hire from within or people they've already worked with.

Yes, I have a friend who works for an MLB team. He told me that MLB.com was hiring a writer to cover the team in 2007. Turns out they hired an intern who did his stint in a different city.

I've had the exact same experience. Given the wide range of skill between their strongest and weakest writers, I would think they would be more interested in an occasional new body. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

They hire roughly 30 interns every year, one per city. It's a great experience for those just finishing up college.

As far as full-time jobs, don't hold your breath. If they have an opening, the best candidates for the jobs probably know about them before any bogus monster.com ad. They usually hire beat writers wanting a little less stress.
