As a lifelong Lakers fan ... thank goodness.

Now, if Adam Silver can move as fast as he did on Donald Sterling and get rid of Jim Buss, things will be better in the purple and gold area.

Not the least bit surprised. And with Phil spoken for, hope the Lakers will move forward.

Doc Rivers to coach Lakers and bring Chris Paul with him, in the NBAs attempt to devalue the Clippers

I really can't blame D'Antoni. Maybe Steve Nash will hang it up, too.

Happy days are here again! Mike D'Antoni resigns as the Lakers coach. I couldn't be happier!

... maybe not.

I love the incredible insight and expert analysis you'll always find on @ESPN_FirstTake with Skip, Stephen A. & Cari. Love you guys!

This was a disaster from the beginning but no coach was winning with that roster and next year won't be any different.

Yeah, but that first game against the Bucks was sweet. So much adrenaline that night. They beat the **** out of the Bucks. At least for the first half. IIRC, and I was in the back of a Greyhound bus listening on the radio, the Bucks made a game of it in the second half, somewhat.

What's the deal with this?

Even if you think it's the right move, it seems sort of classless to be celebrating. Is it personal?

Seems especially odd, given that Magic is trying to portray himself as an "elder statesman" and the logical next owner of the Clippers.

Magic also got Paul Westhead canned... So ...

To be fair to D'Antoni, he never had the chance to coach the team he was hired to coach.

Yeah, but we know that was personal.

Even if you thought D'Antoni and his offense (or whatever) was a poor fit for the team, I thought D'Antoni was respected around the league.

In their statement, the Lakers thanked him for the job he did, etc. They chose the politically correct, classy move.

So, why did Magic choose to celebrate, like they had rid themselves of some horrible person?

Magic was one of the black guys Sterling didn't want his girlfriend appearing in public with.

Magic has no association with the Lakers except as former player and fan. I note this thread started with a Lakers fan essentially agreeing with Magic.

D'Antoni was doomed from the second people realized that ownership hired him when Phil was still in play.

I would not be surprised if they went with a college coach here.

Which one? Calipari? Donovan? Lakerdom is not going to be satisfied with a Marshall. It wants a brand name.
