If you've already got a version of Office XP or something like that, don't bother. You're going to have to re-learn a bunch of stuff, and the improvements aren't worth it.

You're right. I'm going through the upgrading/transferring hell right now just to be done with it, once and for all. It really sucks @ss, to say the least.

Vista's not BAD, really, it's just not necessary. It seems like a Microsoft money grab

Vista's not BAD, really, it's just not necessary. It seems like a Microsoft money grab. It eats a ton of RAM, and other than being prettier than XP, it has no apparent "qualities" to make someone think, "Man, I really need to upgrade to Vista."

bingo. my brother works for microsoft. he's in marketing. this is exactly what he told me. in fact, he offered to get me the stuff to upgrade for free but said it's a bad idea.
he says basically no one should pay to upgrade unless you identify a crucial feature of vista that you need that XP doesn't have. for 98 percent of users, there is no such crucial feature. when your computer eventually dies, you'll get vista on the new machine.
