Meanest obit ever?

Honestly, that obituary only serves to make me think less of the people who penned it than the person it was written about.

I once took a class in homiletics (speech giving), and the instructor gave us a sample eulogy he gave at the funeral of a universally hated man. Was fascinating.

Good for them. Too often in death the deceased is canonized, and all their awful traits are swept under the rug. Good for this family being unafraid of telling the truth.

Leslie's remains will be cremated and kept in the barn until "Ray", the family donkey's wood shavings run out.

Sometimes this works the other way. When my father's oldest brother died, he was survived by a married-with-kids daughter and a ne'er-do-well son. The daughter and her husband were the quintessential family moochers, in their 50s but still prevailing on daddy to patch over various financial ****-ups. My uncle would fix some, but not all, of these, which apparently was unconscionable. When daddy passed, the daughter was left in charge of the funeral, and she took advantage by arranging a lovely half-hour slandering of her father.

A few months later, I ran into her somewhere and she excitedly told me about her father's estate closing and her getting the keys to his old car. "We needed another car and we had just prayed and prayed," she said. "And God provided!"

His relatives don't sound too charming either. They might as well hire Judy Dench to **** on his ashes

I suspect the whole thing is a hoot cooked up by Popeye himself.

I prefer the subtle shade. From one we ran a couple months ago: "She had a second marriage later in life and that husband preceded her in death also."

Minnesota woman's obit takes dark turn over long-ago extramarital affair

Hey, at least "will now face judgment" is more honest than some of the other things I've seen.

"Joins the Lord's Heavenly Choir"
"Entered Heaven hand-in-hand with Jesus"
"Earned her Angel's wings"
etc ...

The journalist in me says "died." The obit page editor in me just sighs and makes another batch of doughnuts ...

Yeah, and what's with that exalted Rainbow Bridge for dogs and cats?
