That wouldn’t be as big though because you can do the math easily enough to see how far out the break-even point is with what you save on charges vs fill-ups. And figure once you sell your house that’s an attractive item for buyers.

These are mostly people who thought Ukraine was going to get solved in 24 hours, clean energy projects are a scam, and tariffs are going to make things cheaper.

Trying to walk them through how to actually calculate economic benefits is probably pointless.

I just bought a car and have a chunky payment due next month, now I have to get the house rewired too?
We had to have some rewiring done a few years ago when we swapped out a regular bathtub for a whirlpool bath. Homes don't come with much room for electrical demand increases, I guess.

Even if you have a garage, you need to get a charger installed by an electrician if you want any kind of speed to your charge. That's a hidden cost of a couple grand.
If you do it independently it is expensive. When I got my EV, Hyundai offered me a deal to put in one of their chargers and it would have been significantly less expensive. I am leasing. I'm not going to take the company up on something like that. But if you buy the car, it makes sense

The next obstacle I see for widespread adoption is how do people in apartments or who use street parking get easy, convenient charging? If you don’t have a garage where it can sit on a charger while you slumber it feels like EV life gets a lot more stressful and cumbersome.
Many hotels in the Dakotas, Minnesota and other frigid locales have a plug-in at most parking spaces, for your head-bolt heater. I'm sure other residential parking lots could easily adapt.

At least at the moment, Ford does that as well if you buy an electric car or truck. If those things didn't lose so much value when you drive them off the parking lot, I'd be into an F150 Lightning by now.

Not sure if the big-rig manufacturers will do that for commercial purchases, though.
