Thought that, too, PO. But other than Tiger or Phil, wouldn't almost everybody else be an underdog?

Agreed. To me, this seems like a good time to not be cute and just go with a straight header. After a big event, I almost always see something clever by now. This time, I'm seeing a bunch of people (not here -- on Web sites) just trying too damn hard to split the atom.

EDIT: I don't know how to spell "too."

I went with A NEW PLAYER, and tied it in with the subhed about he and Player being the only South Africans to win The Masters.

That's decent journalism for a copy editor. ;D

Started out with the generic A MASTER STROKE

While proofing, thought up THE IMMELMAN.

News copy editor liked it, and that's what we went with.

VAGUE POP-CULTURE REFERENCE
This newspaper double-staffed, is nowhere near Augusta

Joking: Some schmuck other than Tiger wins

Serious: Little-known Immelman wins Masters

Denver Post: Immelman goes green
Rocky Mountain News: 'Man of the hour (tab front); Immelman a Player, too (inside)

I would have been rooting for him to choke in order to produce a SELF-IMMELATION headline somewhere.

Gutsy effort for Immelman.
No, just kidding. Would have used "Wake me when this **** is over, because this is some un-Masters on a Sunday like golf."
In three decks.

Best I've seen.

Not Love Conquers All with the 6-column photo of DLIII under the rainbow in 1997.... but damned good.

anybody have numbers on the amount of people that bothered to watch this? was it any more than 3?

NEW YORK (AP) — Preliminary ratings for the final round of the Masters were down slightly from last year.
Sunday’s coverage on CBS drew an overnight rating of 8.9 and an 18 share. That’s down two percent from a 9.1/21 in 2007.
