I was excited about the prospect of seeing a movie remake of a 60s TV Show I remember vaguely. It sounded interesting. Then I saw Tom Cruise was starring in the role of Napoleon Solo. I don't think I will bother with it now. When there is a movie remake of it, will Cruise star as Gilligan, too? Just checking......

Apparently there is a remake of Guys and Dolls in the works with Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt taking over for Brando and Sinatra....

I love the Cruise as Gilligan idea. Can we gather a pile of cash to back the project? That's a sure Oscar if Cruise can get all Bob Denver.

Napoleon Solo....Best freaking name for a character I've ever heard. And best of all, he's not related to Hans.

Tom Cruise out.

Who is Henry Cavill?

Superman in "Man of Steel," coming out in 2 weeks.

I never watched UNCLE back in the days. Is Napoleon Solo supposed to be a big huge hulking guy?

No, quite the opposite. Robert Vaughn played Napoleon Solo, with David McCallum as his sidekick, Ilya Kuriakin (sp?). It was more cool gadgets and outsmarting the wicked brutes from SMERSH than simple force.

I enjoyed the show.

Have the board game from the 60s.

WW West was another favorite.

Someone here didn't care for either, can't remember who it is.

(I lie!)

Time Tunnel was another I enjoyed.

Great show. You can find episodes on YouTube if you're interested.

Also interesting to note that not only is Robert Vaughn the last surviving member of "The Magnificent Seven" - villain Eli Wallach is also still alive - he also has a PhD in communications from USC.

Robert Vaughn has had a very interesting career. A few years back he had a recurring role on "Law & Order," where he played a wealthy industrialist who carried on a long vendetta against Jack McCoy.

But for guys of my generation he'll always be Napoleon Solo.

Always hated every character Vaughn played - I think because I was supposed to - but I loved him in Hustle. The guy doesn't age.
(UNCLE was before my time)
That said - whomever they make it with we will no doubt hear that "X Actor was the perfect choice and the only one who could play this role" in the DVD extras.
Ang Lee was supposedly "the only person to direct Life of Pi" - but he was the third or fourth choice after others bailed.
