McGwire hit .201 with 22 HRs in 1991 and .187 with 29 HRs in 97 games in 2001, his last year
So it's not unprecedented, then.
Really, though, there aren't many things in baseball that are.
It amazes me how a player can lead the league in hitting the ball out of the park, yet by and large he can't hit the side a barn with a broomstick.
You would think one must be related to the other, but I guess not always.

Those are some great stats, too, btw. Those and the Kingman stat. Blows my mind. :-)

I'm just going to check in periodically to see if pallister can go another 47 pages without posting.

Who does?

Other White Sox fans who also have tats, jean shorts, mustaches and consider it a good night to get to third base with their sister after beating up the other team's first-base coach?

Both of them eventually started, didn't they? I'm pretty sure Helton did.

Helton started before Manning. Seth Smith didn't do **** at Ole Miss (as a football player).

Here's Helton's Tennessee football career in a nutshell:

In 1993, the Vols had Heath Shuler, who finished second in the Heisman voting. Helton didn't play much that season, if at all, because the Vols had a capable back-up in Jerry Colquitt.

In the 1993-94 offseason, Tennessee signed Peyton Manning and Branndon Stewart (who was rated nearly as high as Manning). Still, Colquitt, a senior, went into the season as the starting quarterback, with Helton, a junior, as the back-up.

In the season opener against UCLA, Colquitt got hurt. Helton took over, but then he got knocked out for the season three weeks later against Mississippi State.

Manning and Stewart rotated at QB the rest of the year, and neither Colquitt nor Helton ever played another down of football.

Since we don't have Running Dumbass Moments in Alleged Journalism thread, I have nowhere else to put this:

From Yahoo's fantasy notes:

"Nick Zaccardi and Carrie Muskat, of MLB.com, report Chicago Cubs SP Carlos Zambrano is tied for the team lead in wins. Him and SP Ryan Dempster have 10 wins."

Who is writing this stuff, the guy with the 'morans' sign? Dan Quayle? White Sox fans?

Hey, hey! The Braves won a 1-run game. 6-22 in such affairs now. (Sorry, Moddy).

Moddy isn't the only masochist Nats fan on here, you know.

I was always proud of a staffer whose keen reporting skills allowed he to unearth nuggets such as the team leader in wins. That takes a lot of work, you know? I'd tell the rest of the crew, "Him did a good job with that."

Meth's a crazy drug.

And Manny Ramirez is a ****ing joke, btw.

I missed it. What did Manny do this time?

Manny was being Manny in shallow left field and someone wound up at third base.

Never even needed to leave his feet to make a catch turned it into a slide then rollover to get the ball.

Wow, Joba looking strong through 6 ... 1 run, 6 hits, 8 Ks, 1 BB, 96 pitches.
Of course, the A's are fielding a Triple A lineup these days.
