WASHINGTON - Legendary Phillies announcer Harry Kalas has been taken by ambulance to a Washington area hospital after he was found passed out in the press box at Nationals Park.

The Phillies announcers were called to the team's clubhouse at about 1 p.m. and the media was asked to leave.

The team did not provide any other details.

More information to come.

Here's hoping he comes out of this OK.

EDIT: To update thread title :(

Re: Harry Kalas passes out, taken to hospital

I just posted that on the baseball thread; should have started its own thread, but whatever. Let me add my own hopes that he's okay.

Another report from CSN Philly says he's in "serious" condition at GWU, though still not many details.

He had heart surgery just a few months ago... :-\

This is not the way I would have liked to have seen Twitter to be a useful news tool. ****. RIP, Harry the K.

Edit to add another source:

Harry Kalas, the Phillies' Hall of Fame announcer, died at 1:20 p.m. today, the Phillies announced.
Mr. Kalas collapsed in the press box at Nationals Stadium in Washington at about 12:30 p.m. and was rushed to George Washington University Medial Center.
The cause of the death was not announced. Today's game against the Nationals will be played, but the team will not visit the White House tomorrow.

Love listening to him. He's one of those guys that, even though I don't care about the Phillies, I'll flip on a Phillies game on XM just to hear him for a few minutes.

Get well, Harry.

Re: Harry Kalas passes out, taken to hospital

I rode an elevator with him last year on the final day of the regular season at CBB, he looked good, like he had lost some weight.
If ever it was an honor to share an elevator ride with someone, he was it.

Re: Harry Kalas passes out, taken to hospital

I just discovered him last week. I hope all is well.

God. What an awful loss.

Rest In Peace.

****. Me. I did the same thing, Riverman. Just to hear that voice.

One of my two favorite PBP announcers in the world. Listen to him, then listen to Vin and know that you're taken care of on all fronts; that it doesn't get any better than this for a baseball fan.

Stunned and saddened -- and I'm not even a Phillies fan. :'( :'(

RIP to one of the true Voices ever.

I'm starting to tear up. This hurts my heart to hear the news.

This hits me HARD. Harry the K was the voice that introduced me to baseball in the summer of 1989 for a really terrible Phillies team. RIP Harry.
