So he changes to No. 6. Big deal. However, there was no need. Yes MJ was an icon for the 80's and 90's but time has shown that he's just about the rings and the money so I'm not in favor of any Jackie Robinson treatment for his number/legacy.

MJ is an arrogant pr*ck who has not been an upstanding husband/family man nor someone who has done anything for society in general. (Notice parallel with Tiger.)

Of course there was a need. How else were they going to market new jerseys to a dopey public?

And next year, he can pay homage to Bill Russell and Dr. J and switch to number 32.

So is LeBron

I'd rather the number on his jersey change than the team name.

Not like he's a trendsetter here. MJ did it. Kobe did it. Even ****ing Joe Girardi did it.

When I was a kid you could not buy a jersey with a number and a player's name.

And nobody ever changed numbers back then.

What a coincidence.

Dr. J wore 32 in college and the ABA

Yes, it is horrible that a star athlete's No. 1 concern was winning championships.... ::)

Follow the money, guys ... both LeBron and Jordan are Nike guys. It's gotta be the shoes. Wouldn't surprise me to see all this is guided by the swoosh.

I have a very, very early memory of seeing Dr. J play for the Nets. I was probably about 5. I didn't take note of his number. :)

Sooooo, Point of order,

Please tell me where the evidence is that LeBron is an arrogant prick who's not an upstanding citizen and not an upstanding family man. In fact, tell me anything, other than snapping pics with his teammates, or throwing chalk in the air, that points to anything other than LeBron being a solid citizen. Give me any evidence to back up your claim.

Yeah, I am hoping to hear his reasoning.

Well, the sideline antics are really annoying.

Adrian Woj's take.

He's a multi-millionaire with a high school education who was corronated as the future King of the NBA when he was just a little kid. How could he not be an arrogant prick? Any of us would be under those circumstances. I don't blame him, it's just a fact. He is a blank slate corporate schill who will say or do whatever he's told so long as he's paid his asking price.

It's like Jordan said when someone asked him why he didn't advocate for typically associated black causes: "Hey, Republicans buy shoes, too."

More evidence? Look who he works for -- Nike and the NBA -- don't you think a corporate schill for these business enterprises is probably gonna be a prick? Just like Tiger; just like MJ; just like Kobe. I don't fault him for it. If it wasn't him it would be someone else.

The Wikipedia entry jogged my memory to some more "evidence":

How about the time he "ordered organizers to confiscate CBS video tape of him being dunked on by Xavier University's Jordan Crawford at the Nike LeBron James Skills Academy"? Remember that one? I do.

And I didn't know he'd blamed the media for his need to use marijuana:

"On July 23 in an interview for his upcoming book "Shooting Stars",[88] Lebron James admitted to smoking marijuana from all the stress he was getting from the media at the time."

I wonder if media attention gets you a prescription for medical marijuana in California? Shall I continue?

I realized LeBron was an arrogant prick when he started doing a riverdance to taunt the Chicago Bulls. And I don't even like the Bulls.

LeBron is a leDouche and the NBA blows.

It's cultural, not personal. You know how the French are.

If my kid gave a **** about the Lakers anymore (she doesn't since Kobe's Colorado incident and since he ran off Shaq), I would have taken her to Lakers offices and demanded that they replace her No. 8 jersey with a No. 24 jersey, or refund the money for the No. 8 jersey.
Useless exercise, yes, but it would have made me feel better, anyway.

If you're the Knicks, why bother taking a chance on tampering charges when you can just have CNBC do the dirty work for you?
