The Army definitely needs to keep an eye on this guy and others like him, for the sole reason that it's dangerous when a desire to be a great soldier -- which sometimes, folks, involves killing people -- crosses the line to a place where the desire for indiscriminate and wholesale violence becomes the norm.

That he's Dr. Laura's son is largely immaterial, in this case.

That being said, Dr. Laura's fault isn't that she's hypocritical, but that she's hateful and unsympathetic, plain and simple. If all you have in you is criticism but no willingness to help, then you're part of the problem.

It's really a good thing those whackos on the right don't have anyone from the left to expose as hypocrits. Man, would we look silly as we point of the neo-con hypocrisy while not acknowledging our own pitfalls which, thankfully, don't exist.

Good thing there's no one preaching about global warming while flying around the world in a private jet. Good thing there's nobody advocating helping the poor while building 28,000 square foot mansions on 100 acre tracts of land away from the little people in bad schools. Good thing there are no democrats on ethics committees taking bribes. Good thing there are no self-appointed watchdogs in Hollywood calling their children worthless little pigs or blathering on about how religion is a disease while at the same time pointing the finger at those intolerant of muslims. Good thing we have two legs to stand on while exposing all the problems those brainless, moronic sheep have.

brainless and moronic seems a bit redundant.

When talking about one person's hypocrisy it isn't necessary to point out other's. It would be rather silly if everyone that wanted to call Laura a hypocrite to also call someone on the "left" a hypocrite.

In the end, it seems Dr. Laura's parenting skills aren't very good. So, people calling in an listening to her should stop.

Sure, when it doesn't fit your template.

Sure, when it doesn't fit your template.

Or you can simply lie and call Al Gore a hypocrite because he doesn't bicycle around the world and John Edwards a hypocrite because he --- gasp! --- lives in a big house instead of letting the poor stay there rent free.

To me, there's little difference between Dr. Laura, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oprah and all the other sanctimonious gasbags trying to tell me how to live my life. I wish they'd all shut the **** up.

Having said that, Dr. Laura's hypocrisy makes her the worst of the bunch. I don't need her son's whack-job website to tell me she's a brainless, mean-spirited harpy ... but it helps.

Don't know if I'd call it hypocrisy, but Edwards building that absurdly over the top 28,000 sq. foot palace right before he's about to run for president on a platform based on empathy for the poor/underclass does seem like really bad political judgment. I know he's smart enough to see how that would easily be spun the wrong way. Seems like he would've been wise enough to bite the bullet by enduring life in his current mansion for an extra year or so, so this wouldn't become a political issue.

Dr. Laura is not hateful -- there is that word again -- and if she was so "unsympathetic" why do so many people tune in and listen and call in to take her version of abuse?

Sometimes a good smack in the head (figuratively) is what some people need. To me the kind of psychobabble that is far more dangerous than this tough love nonsense is the kind that pampers, coddles and otherwise excuses bad choices and even poor behaviour.

Once again certain people apparently either can't read or don't think the forum rules apply to them.....

She's abusive because she deals in abuse.
She's a fraud because she masquerades as a psychologist and has no training in the field.
People listen a) because some people like to listen to other people get abused, and b) because she's a freak show.
This has been another installment of simple answers for simple folk.

Dr Laura is one of the most mean spirited and unlikable human beings I've ever heard.

I'll leave it at that.

You quoted one of my posts than responded to another one, you need to take a break.

You need to work on the difference between "then" and "than."
Also the difference between "thinking" and "vomiting."

I'm not calling either Al Gore or Dr. Laura hypocrites. I don't think they are. Nobody's perfect.

But surely in similar situations, if one is guilty of hypocrisy, so is the other.

Well, never one to let the facts get in a way of a good leftie rant, Fenian, you are just dead wrong.

Dr. Laura on her own web-site lists her credentials and never once claims she is a psychiatrist and she is licensed as a marriage, family and child counselor -- which is what she does on the air. And in fact, in 2006 she won a truth in media award, which seems to make it a bit tougher for your to make your fraud label stick.

And one other thing -- a lot of people listen because they find her advice to be helpful.

This is another installment of setting the record straight, even when lefties don't like facts to be known.

Generally a message board argument is definitively won when the losing side has to turn into grammar/spelling cop.
