John Skipper Reveals . . .

"The subject in question had better spill every detail about his private life in a manner that satisfies me, otherwise I'm going to be forced to speculate wildly about it."

Be sure to give your ex-boss a big hug.

Reading recaps, including the NYT's (written by Deadspinner Kevin Draper), Skipper's mention of missing a plane is humorous to think about.

Imagining him white-knuckling the wheel like Henry Hill and he got to the airport late, or he was so blitzed and said ****it, not today.

After a pretty hard 12-hour bender one night I stuck with the plan to go cover a triathlon at 7 in the morning. That was difficult.

Conservative hero Clay Travis tweets that Skipper is "lying." I hope Skipper sues Travis into bankruptcy. He won't. Discovery etc. But I'd love it.

So if he was a liberal icon would it be OK to tweet he was lying? You really don't think Skipper is full of ****? If it was just coke all he had to do was tell the company he had a problem and needed help. Unless he was drug tested and failed his story is most definitely bs. If you fail the drug test, most companies can fire you. If you go to the employer and say you have a problem and they respond by firing you have a reason to sue.

Solid self-reflection. Be sure to keep making **** up about strangers.

For what it's worth, I've never met or spoken to John and have no reason to think he knows I exist.

It's not OK to call somebody a liar without better proof than Travis has. Is it permissible? Yep. It's hard to prove a libel claim, and it should be. But this represents a level of irresponsibility that no reputable news organization would tolerate.
Travis is playing to his SEC football fan base, and he's desperately trying to impress Fox News.

OK. We'll see how Skipper's lawsuit turns out. I'm sure Travis called him a liar just because he didn't like him or agree with him. No way he ever witnessed or knew people who witnessed Skipper do more than just coke.

As I said, there will be no lawsuit. Depositions et al.
Travis has built a fan base by hammering on ESPN's liberal nature. Any chance he gets to bash them, he will take because he knows it means clicks. So far, he has no grounds to make a professional, responsible claim that Skipper is guilty of sexual harassment.

Yes, I doubt he has video evidence. But I'd bet anything if it wasn't him, there are others who witnessed Skipper do more than just coke. Not saying sexual harassment, but if you think he is apologizing to his wife for just doing coke that's pretty funny.

Looking at it from another perspective: What are the odds there is no extortionist?

That the real story is Skipper's just a massive coker and got bounced because of it?

From Draper's story ...

He did not say how long he had been using cocaine, or whether he reported the extortion plot to law enforcement. In December, at the time of his resignation, Mr. Skipper said he was entering rehabilitation. The police departments in Bristol, Conn., and Wilton, Conn., the Connecticut State Police and the New York City Police Department all said then that there were no records of any incidents involving Mr. Skipper.

There's definitely an extortionist. It's a coke dealer in Central Park. Has the guy who wrote this story ever been to Central Park? Is this the late 70s, early 80s.

So a dealer -- who Skipper never dealt with till this one time -- concocted an elaborate plan to extort him?

That's the shoe that's going to drop when push comes to shove.

Was thinking I didn't have to use the blue font, guess I should have. Just posted on the previous page that's it's pretty funny if anyone thinks Skipper quit only because some coke dealer was going to out him.

I don't think Clay Travis is conservative or liberal.

He stakes out whatever SEC frat house position is going to drive traffic .

How about "collar-popping bottom feeder?"

Never listened to the guy, aside from someone posting a clip here or a clip on another web site. He definitely evokes some anger from a few people at sj though.

What advantage is it tot Skipper to put out lies about him being on coke. Is that less embarrassing to him than just saying he got replaced? I am not sure I believe every detail of his story- for example, maybe there were some hookers involved- but I think the story is generally true as far as it goes.

Ummm, guess what I was saying was not clear. I do not think he is lying about doing coke. I think he definitely did coke. I do not think that is all he did.
I also do not think he feels so guilty about hurting his wife only because of doing coke. Guess it's possible, but it would be the first time I've heard something
like that. I'd bet it's way more likely he feels guilting about banging various women. Is it less embarrassing to say he has a coke problem?
Well I think it would be less embarrassing to his wife.

And how does a guy who makes 8 million bucks a year not have an emergency stash or two at the ready?
