I get the feeling this will be a thing ...

http://www.tmz.com/2013/11/13/jameis-winston-florida-state-quarterback-investigated-sexual-assault/print

Law enforcement and other sources tell TMZ .... a woman filed a sexual assault complaint with the Tallahassee PD on December 7, 2012. She claims the alleged sexual assault was committed with the use of "physical force."

According to the police report, the motive for the alleged crime was "sexual gratification." The alleged victim says drinking was involved before the incident.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

Drinking was involved before the incident? With a college student-athlete? Wow, I've never, ever heard that one before!

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

Thought this would be about what he did to Clemson.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

The investigation is ongoing 11 months after the complaint? Even Columbo was faster than that. Makes you wonder if this is one of those "we may think he did it, but we got nothin'" scenarios.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

How long do these kinds of investigations take? The complaint was filed almost a year ago.

The investigation is going to take until two days after FSU's first loss.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

I had a friend whose complaint took about that long before any decision was reached. The police dept where her complaint was filed was so backed up, and messed up, that the physical evidence was eventually contaminated. I don't even think it ever went to trial since that basically ruined the case. That was a real fun year for her!

Very well put.

Cant help but wonder if the perfect season might've ever so slightly have had something to do with the glacial pace of investigation.

Suck for Luck? Riggin' for Wiggins?
"Take it in the Anus for Jameis" apparently is no longer just a clever euphemism for tanking.

Wow. That's awful.

Let me say that I don't want anyone thinking I'm being dismissive here. It's just that I was surprised at such a long time lag. My quickie inference was that there might not have been a make-able case -- hence the delay -- but I take it that inference was mistaken.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

Now this would be an extreme case of making him look good for the draft. From the Tallahassee Democrat:

The incident report describes the suspect as between 5 foot 9 and 5 foot 11 tall and 240 pounds. FSU athletics media guide lists Winston as 6 foot 4 and 218 pounds.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

I doubt it will be a thing. All due respect to Dre and his friend - and **** the asshole who raped her - but cops generally don't sit on hard evidence of rape for a year without doing anything. The long delay, combined with the fact that the subject is described as much smaller than Winston, makes me think there's no hard evidence on Winston. My guess is that some incompetent police officer leaked this without reviewing the evidence.

No worries. I didn't think you were. My friend seemed to be dealing with a particularly incompetent police dept. and I'm guessing it usually doesn't take that long.

But if that's true, then why bring it up now? You've swept it under the rug for this long, what's 6-7 more weeks?

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

Because TMZ got wind of it?

You mean why they are reporting it? It could be as simple as because they're TMZ.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

Putting aside the seriousness of this, I will chuckle if Johnny Football wins a second Heisman by default because the guy ahead of him had "character concerns."

Yes. Spot on.

Re: Jameis Winston in trouble?

I wonder if the Florida newspapers knew about this, and when.

We had a basketball player at the school I covered who had a rape/sexual assault investigation hanging over his head. His name was in the public record police reports, and every single person covering the team knew about it. It was discussed freely among us. But it was never reported because it was pretty much agreed that until an actual charge was filed, it was inhumane to basically ruin the kid's life over an accusation.
