No link yet, but I'm hearing that the Cal Tech men's basketball team, losers of 310 straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games spanning 26 years and the focus of the movie Quantum Leaps, beat Occidental tonight to end its dubious streak.

"Caltech hit a free throw with 3 second left. missed the back end, but Oxy could only get off a wild shot."

Start the parade in Pasadena ... and the burning of Eagle Rock.

That video is awesome from the LAT website. If ever there was a time to storm the court.

I covered a couple of their games back in the day when I was on the part-time SCIAC beat. Coaches and teams were fearful of being "the team" that lost to them to end the streak -- and that was 15 years ago. Good for them.

Quotes from the school website? You mean they didn't staff the game?!

Overjoyed.

That was pretty damn awesome. Got a few goosebumps watching that celebration.

The PA guy was great. Sounded like he'd been possessed by a demon: "TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AND MORE THAN 300 LOSSES!!!!"

How about the random guy screaming "WE WON!!!!!!" about a minute in?

Pasadena Star News/LANG has been covering the conference games this year. Their reporter stopped in after covering a prep game and was there for the last five minutes, I was told.

Should have gotten more play on A1 of the Pasadena paper.

And now the Cal Tech coach will try to end another losing streak: He'll be an honorary coach the Washington Generals against the Globetrotters on Thursday in Bakersfield.

Plaschke weighs in.

As several hundred howling fans swarmed the court in the tiny recreation center gym on Caltech's campus, freshman guard Todd Cramer was embraced by an older, distinguished-looking man.

"I thought, wait a minute, that's the school president, and he just rushed the court?" Cramer said. "How cool."

(Bump) to add baseball:
