Your thoughts?..........

And we had how many senseless killings here in the U.S. last night? It's a sorry situation but we can't even fix our own problems. What makes anyone think we can solve the problems of the middle east?

It's very, very sad.

My main question, and I know you might not like it, Chuck, is why Hizbollah would provoke these attacks, hide among civilians and then complain about the results?

I deplore the civilian casualties. In Irag, in Lebanon, everywhere. But I also don't think Israel should be back down. They were attacked, and by forces in Lebanon.

Hizbollah called down the thunder, and they're going to get it.

that is how they work. they provoke attacks in areas full of civilians, Israel responds and then hexbollah plays the PR card of look how many civilians you killed. it's how they gain favor over there.

it amazes me that these people aren't pissed at hezbollah for putting them in danger, but it's not a surprise considering all the **** hezbollah gives its followers - health care, schools and other ****.

i think if this new resolution with a big buffer and an international force that can acutally do something pans out, then things should be ok.

and one other thing. lebanon is praising hezbollah for what it has done - not the attacks, but everything since. does that not show people that they are condoning terrorism and putting their people at risk for a small portion of their population? these people are ****ing whacked.

Everyone regrets the collateral damage, but it's gonna get worse.

It's high time for some Starman justice (if that term applies here). As stated above, these ****ers asked for it, and now they're gonna get a belly full of it.

And a buffer won't stop anything but mortars. The ranges on some of thier rockets is upwards of 40 miles.

So much for winning hearts and minds on the Arab street.

As if Israel cared.

Buckle up, kiddoes. This is going to be a long, nasty war. Just what Doctor Wolfowitz ordered ....

Won't be long and nasty if Israel gets eradicated.

I have a queasy feeling that Israel is a short-timer.

Hmmm. Would this make you a realist, or an indifferent and uncaring ass?

Let me throw this out. If Israel really wanted to, it could have blown up all of Lebanon by now - with ease. Are they making some mistakes with the buildings they hit? Maybe they are. Innocent people have died, and that is terrible, but you're dealing with people who don't give a **** if you kill innocent people. they will, however, use it to their benefit, but they don't care.

You talkin' about a nuke???

Israel has one of the best damn armies in the world. if someone sends a nuke at them, you can best believe that country and all of its friends are probably going down to. that said, i don't think it would go to that stage. those guys may be fanatical and out of their mind, but are they really that stupid? wait, maybe they are.

I'm thinking more of a massive attack from every corner of the Arab world, led by Iran.

As soon as Iran has nuclear capability, all hell REALLY breaks lose, yes.

all the arab countries already tried that. Israel pushed them back in a week. if Iran steps into it, expect Europe to take their head out of their ass and wake up to what is going on in the region and back Israel. They may not like what israel is doing now, but if they realize it's all iran's doing - and they don't like Iran much either - then there will be more support for Israel, as well as the US probably kicking over some troops from Iraq.

U.S. is really thin, and I don't know if Europe has the stones it did 50 years ago.

We shall see.

Christ, never have I so hoped I am 100 percent wrong.

The Israel UN Amb. gave a great interview to the Stephanoupoli today; in it, he pointed out that Israel was sorry for the havoc it's causing but noted that 250 missiles a day are being sent into Israel cities haphazardly, thus proving that Hezzbollah is targeting Israeli citizens while Israel clearly targets only military locations, including, he noted, rocket launchers being set up in and around housing developments.

When asked if this would turn the Middle East's anger towards Israel, he correctly noted "I'm sure it will. But Arab children are given school books in which they are taught to hate Israel. When they are raised like that, there's little we can do to make people hate us even more."

Sounds like the Ambassador (and I wonder how many other Israeli leaders) have decided they have nothing more to lose among the "arab street."

In fact, the only point that matters.

Israel has really given negotiation a chance. They, as a nation, are on the verge of throwing up their hands at all negotiation.

Nice of Hizbollah to think of the Palestinians, eh? In fact, a case could be made that the worst enemy of Palestinian statehood has been the Arab nations surrounding Israel, rather than Israel itself.

No... no... no...

We had a thread on sportsjournalists.com, where many, many weighed in with the opinion that the hateful elements of Islam are a vast minority of the religion.

So, the diplomat must be wrong.

I'm not ready to say that Israel is the good guy, here. Sure, there are missiles being fired into Israel (I doubt, by the way, the PM's count). But as for the collateral damage north of the border being simple mistakes, I keep coming back to the train of three ambulances -- all white with big ****ing red crosses on them -- that Israeli jets took out last week. That's not "oops." That's indiscriminate malice.
