I've got a sore throat and no medical insurance. My dad's telling me to try gargling with peroxide (making sure not to swallow any), but I don't think it sounds like a good idea. Thoughts?

I've heard of gargling with salt water, but peroxide? Danger, Will Robinson. Of course, DocTalk can answer this question better than anyone. Send him a PM.

Nope, don't do it. Suck on a Strepsil if you can.

A few days, SC.

I ended up going the saltwater route again. And it's a good thing, too, cause I coughed about halfway through and swallowed some. Poor Beetus could be on his way to poison control right now, but instead, he's just cursing the taste of ocean still in his mouth.

Never seen those before, so I read up on them. Apparently they're made by Boots Healthcare International. This might make me second-guess them ;)

Dead on the floor after gargling with bleach. Ghost of chef will be posting by 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Bull****. If Chef's suicide-by-corn-removal didn't end him, nothing will.

I am not a doctor but gargling with hydrogen peroxide is a thing: http://www.ehow.com/how_2086312_safely-gargle-hydrogen-peroxide.html

Dad isn't trying to kill you. But in case he is: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002652.htm

Usually when you ask if it's a bad idea, it's a bad idea. At least I've learned that in my youth.
