I got this from the IRS yesterday, stating that they owe me some cash. Of course I want the cash, but this just seems too good to be true. Anybody else get one of these?

Question: Have you ever given the IRS your email address?

Even so, I would guess it's a fraud. I don't know that the IRS does much correspondence with email. They're pretty reliant on snail mail. If you really think it's your money, I would call.

Make sure you give them the credit card number when they ask for it to verify that you are really you. That's the giveaway that it is legit. You have to give up your credit card to get your money.

Yeah. That's a scam. They probably will ask for your bank number to direct deposit that baby, methinks.

They'll likely ask to verify you with your social security number too. It's OK to do that.

Actually, I work for the IRS in the e-mail notification department. If you e-mail you information to that address, it'll take days for me to get it and process your payment. But if you IM me with it, I can get your money in 24 hours.

Yeah, they want a credit card or debit card number. That's where the money would go. I may or may not have put my e-mail address on a tax form that I returned this year. Don't really recall.
