Maybe this has been discussed before, but I found it interesting.

I can't say we get many scam attempts in the mail, but my wife got one today that was kind of funny. Included was a legit looking check for $4,880.00 and the following letter:

UBS
UBS Wealth Management Inc
280 Albert St
Ottawa, Ontario
K1P 5G8, Canada

REF: Prize Notification
Claim Number: DBO ... XXXXXXX

Date: April 28TH, 2008

Dear Prize Winner,

This is to notify you that a lump sum amount of $355,000 (three hundred and fifty five thousand US dollars) has been entrusted to us as your sweepstakes prize. You are required to contact your claim agent and specify how your remaining prize should be delivered to you. Your remaining prize ($350,150) can be delivered to your address as a certified check by express courier or transferred electronically to your bank.

Enclosed is a check for $4880 which is part of your winning and initial payment. Please contact your claim agent Jimmy Holmes before depositing the check into your account in order to activate your claim. We wish to inform you that the rest of your prize shall be sent to you after you have paid 1% of your total winning as a non residential tax. The tax you are required to pay is $3550 and should be taken from the enclosed check after the check has cleared. We strongly advise you to pay the tax electronically by Money Gram money transfer to your tax agent as indicated in the address below: Jacqueline Edwards, 3460 Stanley St, Montreal Canada. Hurry now to claim your prize as unclaimed prizes shall be returned 21 days from the notification date.

We recommend that you keep this vital information away from the public. Exposing your claim number to a third party many encourage multiple claims and could jeopardize your claim. We therefore suggest that this letter be kept in a safe place until you have received your remaining prize.

To register your claim, please contact your claim agent Jimmy Holmes at 1-778-858-6750. We are open Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. eastern time. Please keep your claim number handy as you be required to give it for identification purpose. Accept our congratulation.

Sincerely

Mary J. Benson
(Senior accountant)

The bull**** is clear in the text. But just for kicks, I looked up the phone number and, of course, it's a cell phone. I don't think I'll be giving Jimmy Homes a jingle.

Anyone else ever get one of these things?

The better plan would be to inundate Jimmy Holmes' cell number and harass his ass, acting like you're interested and not quite following through. They're like telemarketers, the worst thing you can do to them is get their hopes up and waste their time.

I would go along with this, meet up with the agent and murder him.

No Reallly.

Ok, I'm joking. But I would totally invite him into my car, fart really loudly and lock the doors and windows.
