Incident at MacDill AFB

MacDill, Fla. - Tampa Police Officers are assisting MacDill Airforce base in keeping the general public away from the Bayshore Gate.

Police responded to an unknown situation just after 6 p.m. The gate has been closed for more than three hours now.

While it's not clear what is going on, people close to the scene say the bomb squad is there and they're dismantling an SUV.

Doesn't sound like Bonnie and Clyde. They were arrested after stopping at the gate, not being able to provide ID. They really thought this one through, if their goal was nefarious.

Their logic:
"C'mon, it's MacDill AFB. We zip in, we pick 'em up, we zip right out again. We're not going to the Pentagon. It's MacDill AFB. It's like going into Wisconsin."

Several reports on Google say the two presented fake IDs to try and get on the base.

Wasn't sure how an article could be both vague & shed light on the story, but that about describes it.

A well armed Army deserter? I wouldn't think he had good intentions.

Thank God they were stopped at the gate.
