Great story here about Don LaFontaine, who's been doing movie trailers for more than 40 years but is now becoming better known to the public, thanks to that Geico commercial.

...even the Geico advertising folks didn't have a clue who he was when they were brainstorming "The Testimonial Campaign," a series of spots featuring real customers and B-listers such as Little Richard and Charo.

"Somebody blurts out, `Hey, what about that movie announcer guy?' The other one goes, `Well, what's his name? What does he look like? Who is that guy?' That's how it all started," explains Dean Jarrett of The Martin Agency.

Googling "voice-over guy," they eventually found LaFontaine.

The No. 1 "voice of God" is John Facenda, from NFL Films.

"A Niagra of gold and black... poured down on Roger Staubach"

God, I love Wikipedia...

The Autumn wind is a pirate
Blustering in from sea
With a rollicking song he sweeps along
Swaggering boisterously.
His face is weatherbeaten
He wears a hooded sash
With a silver hat about his head
And a bristling black mustache
He growls as he storms the country
A villain big and bold
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake
As he robs them of their gold.
The Autumn wind is a RAIDER
Pillaging just for fun
He'll knock you 'round and upside down
And laugh when he's conquered and won.

Funny. Reminds me of the time I was in Vegas for a weekend of debauchery. That week the Desert Inn was featuring on its marquee "Mel and Nel." That's right, Mel Torme and Nell Carter performing, gasp, TOGETHER!

You mean its not George Burns?
oops.. that would be the look of God, not the voice of God.

For all we really know about God, this guy could very well have His voice:

Or maybe one of these guys:

Perhaps "The Nanny" is actually the Voice of God:

Since you'd have to make it to the Pearly Gates in order to find out for sure, it's entirely possible that none of us here will ever know. ;D

Facenda
Sheppard
J.E. Jones
LaFontaine

Sheppard and LaFontaine is on my top four voices for their durability and endurance.

Actually, we should have a thread for the best well known voices or voice-overs in t.v./movie history. I'll add Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy to this list as well.

Dom Pardo ahead of both.

Don Pardo would not appreciate having a bottle of Dom Perignon ahead of him. ;)

But I would. 8)

Actually, God sounds like Harry Caray. "Six of my best friends just arrived in the pressbox, and they're all named Bud!" :D
