as a pick-me-up in the midst of today's horror show in newtown, conn., i offer this:

the pictures brought a few smiles to my face, anyway. :D :D

Thanks, shockey. Millions of such deeds take place all over the world every day, far outnumbering acts of cruelty. We sometimes forget that.

The one about tiger bread is so wonderful. And the baby and cat together are as cute as puppies. Well, almost. There's this existentialism in that kid's eyes. Kind of shakes me.

Thanks for sharing. Buzzfeed is becoming an essential site.

thanks Shockey... I know my condo needs cleaning, but didn't realize how dusty it was...

My sister's family was watching The Bourne Legacy tonight when I stopped by. It's a great movie, but I didn't stick around that one scene in the lab. That scene bugged me when I saw it in the theater. Didn't need to watch it today.
And pardon the attempted thread jack, but I was wondering what are the go-to movies when people need an emotional "pick-me-up."
I've always like The Princess Bride and Big Fish.

Thanks for posting that, Shock.

My favorite was the supermarket letter. I really liked how the manager signed his name with his age.

Guys, the little girl who wrote in to the supermarket about giraffe bread actually led Sainsbury's to change the bread name.

This might be the best story ever.

To answer DanO's question: for some reason, if it's not a comedy movie, only some scenes stick with me, but they can be really impactful when I see them or think of them.
--A few from Officer and a Gentleman: when Mayo gives up on setting the record to help the female candidate finish the obstacle course, when the woman gets the graduation coin from Sgt. Foley, when Mayo comes back to get Debra Winger.
--When Patrick Swayze says "No one puts Baby in a corner" in Dirty Dancing
--When Forrest Gump meets his son.
--When Jake makes the winning bunt in Major League and gets the girl.

so glad it hit the right spot for many of you as it did me. just when we needed it; i'll tell middle son shockey's gf it was the perfect elixir later today when we have our annual 'shockey family chanukah' gathering here at casa de shockey. 8) she posted it on his fb page yesterday. methinks i'm going to like this girl....

hope everyone manages to fight through the kick in the head from newtown still enjoy the holidays and teach our children that love and family can trump even the most unthinkable acts. we cannot let evil win.... >:( :'( 8)

Watching the video for Caine's Arcade is 10 minutes well spent.
