NEW YORK - Looking to entice those hungry for a healthier option, Dunkin' Donuts will begin offering a new slate of better-for-you offerings in August.

The menu, which will debut in stores Aug. 6, will feature two new flatbread sandwiches made with egg whites. Customers will be able to choose either a turkey sausage egg-white sandwich or a vegetable one. Both will be under 300 calories with 9 grams of fat or less, the company said.

"We just felt it was important to provide some choice in our menu," said Will Kussell, president and chief brand officer.

Indeed, Will? You mean some choice that doesn't cause customers' arteries to audibly harden when they take the first bite?

This is really actually really healthy, as opposed to most places where the "healthy menu" usually means, "healthier than a Big Mac dipped in bacon grease."

I never thought Dunkin Donuts would be the first fastfood place I can get an egg white sandwich.

With Ghostbusters being one of my all-time favorite flicks, 2MCM gets kudos for one of the best thread titles in a long time.

Portfolio did a story some time back on the new trend of serving unhealthy food at fast food places, aka the Hardee's strategy.
At the time, they were testing out a sandwich that would have been 3,000 or 4,000 calories plus. It was insane and I don't know if they have rolled it out.
The CEO described it as a sandwich where you had meat, then more meat and then more meat as a condiment.
Burger King has some pretty crazy offerings as well.
So an egg white sandwich seems to be bucking that trend.

I'm sorry, but I want healthy food, I'm not going to McDonald's/Burger King/Dunkin' Donuts etc. to get it. I'm going to Subway or some other sandwich shop.

Hell, if I want a pizza, I'm not going to Dunkin' Donuts either.

Hits and misses.

Subway's meats also have no flavor.

My town just opened up a Dunkin Donuts and I checked one out the other day...89 cents for one friggin' donut? My favorite independent bakery does 'em for 44 cents. I think DD's glazed are the best but they're not twice as good as the next best.

Subway sucks...

My favorite thing about Mizzou...he makes a declarative statement like the one above...then uses ellipses to make you want MORE of his thought...sneaky...

It's sad that many people will fall for this type of stuff. They don't take into account things like high fructose corn syrup and the many chemicals that are used to make and cook supposedly healthy food. I'm sure they nuke it in the microwave as well. A little radiation with your flatbread? Why not?!

High fructose corn syrup is the devil, and he is everywhere. Watch the documentary "King Corn".

When I saw the headline on Yahoo I laughed. Dunkin Donuts. Healthy. And yet we stupid humans will buy into it.

Oh, I know it's the devil, which is why 90% of my diet is organic. If high fructose corn syrup was ever made illegal like it is in other countries, this country's economy would probably be worse.

King Corn is a great movie. I've altered my diet since then. It's hard not to eat something with corn syrup. Really hard. I haven't gone the organic route 100%, maybe not 25%. But I'm also steering clear of the corn.

Eating (most) fast food = you're eating one big pile of corn.

I'll have to watch that movie. Is it in the same category of Supersize Me where they attack the industry?

Not attacking. It's often humorous, and a great idea by the Yalies (who are related through Iowa corn; a gread sidestory). It's informative more than anything.

What I came away with is how pervasive the corn industry is in our food supply. Everywhere. And almost impossible to get away from unless you do your homework.

The point that the average American farmer can't feed himself off his own farm anymore -- because he's likely growing this hybrid corn for corn syrup, which is gross to eat off the husk -- stuck with me the most. By the time their product gets to us, it's even more gross.

That, too, playthrough. Farmers aren't growing edible corn. It's engineered corn meant to be turned into corn syrup or whatnot. When the two guys pulled their first corn from their one-acre plot and tried to eat it but had to spit it out ... that was sad.
