No, it isn't Ivan Drago, it's Nikolai Valuev making his first significant Heavyweight title defense in the United States. In case you've never heard of this guy, Valuev is 7 feet tall and weighs 328 pounds.

The guy fighting him, Monte Barrett, has been seemingly jumping up in attempt to punch him in the head. By the looks of things, it's a matter of time before he's KO'ed. It's a silly sight to see, for sure.

So Soda Popinski was based on a real human? Who knew? That guy is the missing link.

If that guy ever shaves his back, you'd have enough hair to make three rugs

Barrett is actually hanging with this guy as the match progresses. I think if Valuev gets in the ring with any of the bigger named, more talented (such as it is) heavyweights, he'll be taken to school and held afterwards for detention. I expected more with a record of 44-0. He must have been fighting Rip Taylor types.

The fight before it (Tomas Adamek and Paul Briggs) was much better. I can't for the life of me figure out why Barrett was headhunting all night instead of testing the body.

You're right... That fight was actually a classic. It was interesting to learn about Briggs and the large amount of garbage he's been involved in so far in his life (raped by an older relative, kickboxer in Thailand at 15, a hitman for the mafia, etc). Lampley actually made me want to run right out and get the biography he was talking about.

As with most heavyweight fights nowadays, the undercard trumped the main event easily.

Adamek-Briggs - doesn't get any better.
The referee for the heavyweight title scrap - doesn't get any worse, Barrett's cornerman saved a potential catastrophe.

I think Ed Asner just lost the public back hair title he;s held for so many years.
