For the hell of it, I posted something I'm considering selling on craigslist. Guy quickly e-mails back asking the price. I send him an answer. I then get this back ...

Thanks for getting back to me quickly..I really appreciate the fast respond.I live in NY.Well why i asked you that question was simply because,i want to buy it for my cousin as a christmas gift since christmas is around the corner, i intend to surprise him with this as a token gift and also i will be offering you the sum of $200 cos of the urgent need before i can proceed with the payment you need to give me some certain details required for the payment,which is your full name and address that will be written on the money order, i mean where you want the money to be sent to with the required payment because i use United States Postal Money Order{USPS}

As soon as the payment is made ...USPS ..will only notify you a confirmation/approval of payment that i have made the payment and thats why it take them minutes to send the approval of payment they will first check maybe its legit as soon as it is..they now send you the notification/approval..okay kindly get back to me as soon as they notify you because am sending the package to my cousin in (westafrica). I really want the item to get to her immediately because she will be vacating her apartment to texas for the christmas, so i will like the item to be shipped to her before she left for TEXAS...because is in need of it.

As for the shipment, i will handle shipping myself because you dont have to pay adime for the shipment to take place because i have an account with my FedEx Express. So kindly let me know if there is a FedEx location around you there. Thanks and hope to hear back from you asap...rega

Me? I'm thinking p-p-p-powerbook.

this is why i've never bought or sold anything on ebay or craiglist...too much **** out there to worry about.

I've bought and sold on Craigslist . . . no problems. I only dealt with local people though. I might've been suspicious if some guy in Nigeria wanted to buy my lawnmower.

CL is a great place to find event tickets locally, instead of going through national brokers.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
The thing with the FedEx account is a documented scam on Craigslist.

I've always found e-Bay to be very reliable as long as you go through PayPal. I just bought a car on e-Bay last week, no problems.

Hey, those grassland savannahs need to be mowed sometime.

I've never had a serious problem buying on eBay...just use PayPal and make sure the seller has a good rating.

Not that I want to game the system or anything, but there has to be a cheaper way to sell a $200 item through eBay, then Paypal, as I'm currently doing.

If it sells for $200, then I need to pay eBay $3.30 (insertion — huh, huh, "insertion" — fee) + $6.65 (final value fee) AND appx. $6.60 taken out by Paypal once I get paid. So that's around $16.50 ... 8.5%.

Quite a racket they got going. Thanks for letting me vent.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT SEND HIM ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i had the something similar happen to me on ebay. west africa is biginto credit fraud and scams. so DON'T EVEN RESPOND TO HIM ANYMORE.

Then paypal or than paypal? I am confused.

Then.

Ebay as a precursor to doing the actual business on Paypal. I know I can use money orders and checks but I'm trying to help folks get things by Christmas.

I as intrigued so I went to that site with the p-p-p-Powerbook story. ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!

Sorry to all the old-old-schoolers out there, but stories like that definitely should have a home in newspapers. Highly entertaining.

THAN paypal. A cheaper way THAN paypal. Once you find it, THEN you can save money.
Trust me on this one, my friend.

Sorry, Moddy. I gave the world horrible syntax on my lede:

"Not that I want to game the system or anything, but there has to be a cheaper way to sell a $200 item than through eBay, also taking into account the associated Paypal fees. This is what I'm currently up against."

We both know grammar. Does either one of us know how to sell something without getting schtooped on costs?

I've never had any serious problems with eBay. I ordered a tie-dye once that took a month to arrive. Yesterday, though, I noticed that I had two messages in my eBay account. When I checked them, I found that a user had been removed for undisclosed reasons. But it sounded scandalous. I got the note from eBay because I had placed bids on two of his items. I don't know whether I won, either. But it does seem that there was a Jim Bunning rookie card that I had hoped to win.

But I completely trust eBay. I've spent hundreds on items, and I'm almost always dealt a great bargain.

See Moddy, I'm not the only one that can't use then/than properly. :D

Just one of my bad peeves. Doesn't make me - or you - a bad person.
Can't help you on the other thing. Any service, online or not, that helps you sell something is going to take a cut. That's how THEY stay in business.

Those coin counter machines in the grocery stories take NINE percent!

Yet, Satchel Pooch was right. He was using a timeline, therefore then.

He uses eBay, then Paypal.

He's looking for something cheaper THAN the system he has, which is eBay, THEN Paypal.
