Hey folks,
So I have a decent relationship with the editor at a magazine where I freelance, but I feel like one of the story ideas I pitched is stalling. He liked the idea and wanted to run it by one of his colleagues who's in charge of the section that normally covers the topic I pitched, but it hasn't happened yet.
Now, I'm making contact with a niche magazine that specializes in my proposed story, and I'd like to lay my idea down on the table. I'm sure they'll go for it, especially since I can already get the kind of access needed to write a strong piece.
Basically, I don't want the first magazine to come back to me in two weeks and say, "Hey, we're ready to run this. What can you get?" and I tell them, "Oh, I took it elsewhere."
Is that standard in the industry, or would I be burning a (really nice) bridge?
Thanks in advance.
