There's a guy who strings for a neighboring paper who on occasion makes his way into our area when we have teams playing each other. He used to work at our paper, and whenever we see him, all he does is badmouth our paper.
Now, I complain about my paper all the time (among my co-workers, not to outsiders), and it bothers me when someone else starts badmouthing us.
I mean, yeah, I know I work at a rag, but it's my rag. I don't go around pointing out the faults of other peoples' papers. Stop ragging on my rag (OK, that one was a little forced, but you get the idea).

Stringer jobs are getting scarce. I bet you could pay a stringer $25 to rub him out.

Well, Mr. K., a lot of what happens here is unexpected. And beautiful.

Too bad Thank God this isn't a feminine products thread.

Classic. I laughed out loud at that one. Out****ingstanding.
Well played, my friend. Well played.

what passes for humor in this place boggles the mind

I've found that when someone says that my rag sucks, telling them "If it was a good paper, it wouldn't have hired me" shuts them right the hell up.

Self-deprecating humor is OK, but a swift kick to the nuts shuts him up too.
