Local football player found dead

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police say 21-year-old Heath Benedict was found dead on his couch Wednesday evening in his Villages of San Jose home. They do not suspect that any drugs or alcohol were involved in his death, or that foul play is suspected.

Benedict, a 6'6, 333 pound football player, was an offensive lineman for Newberry College in South Carolina after he was red shirted at the University of Tennessee, according to the school's Web site.

The site also says that Benedict, originally from the Netherlands, played high school football in New Jersey.

According to NFL Draft Dog, Benedict also had an unofficial workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006.

Police have not released any further details about Benedict's death.

The State has a photo of him w/ their story. He was a big dude, and at least some had him projected as a third or fourth-round pick.

He worked out with the Jaguars at age 19? Was he not even in school at the time? He certainly wasn't three years out of high school.

Makes you wonder how many "unofficial workouts" Terrelle Pryor has had.

So, the Raiders will still draft him in the 5th round?

Are we sure that's not a misprint?

"It's been rumored that Heath had just went through a penile enlargement process" / Poindexter

From the draft site mentioned in the story: http://www.nfldraftdog.com/2008_nfl_draft/heath_benedict.htm
The Jacksonville Jaguars actually gave him an "unofficial" workout after the 2006 season, thinking he was going to enter the 2007 NFL Draft. He weighed in at 6' 5.5" 332 pounds and ran a 4.92 forty yard dash. His arms were measured at 34" and he scored a 31 on the Wonderlic test. He also benched 225 pounds 28 times. Benedict also has a 435 pound bench, 625 pound squat, and power clean of 330 pounds. Don't worry, the workout will not effect his eligibility as no money or favors were discussed or given, and he has never negotiated with an agent.
He was also 24, not 21. TV station apparently didn't check that last night, and neither did I. Boo to both of us.
RIP to Mr. Benedict.

What are the chances of that he died of sudden heart failure or something to do with his weight? RIP and thoughts toward the family.
