Anybody else watch the premiere?

I'm going to have to watch it again to sort everything out, but on the whole, it was well-made, well-acted and full of nudity and sword-play. What's not to like?

It follows the book very closely. I bet it would be hard to get into if you haven't read the book.

Looks like they put a lot of money into it.

Yeah, I haven't read the books. I was big into LoTR and D&D when I was younger, but got out of the fantasy genre as a whole when I was a teenager.

That said, I tend to give all HBO shows a chance. And this one looks like a keeper.

This is kind of fantasy-ish. But it's more realistic, gritty Middle Ages stuff with a dash of fantasy thrown in.

It pretty much hooked me with the opening scene. Yeah, and the last one, too. Wow. Rough.

The New Yorker had a really interesting piece about the author, George Martin. It was about how fans of the book have become incensed with him for not writing the latest book in a timely manner. Some have grown to hate him. The story's about what does an author owe his readers.

For those who have read the books, I'd ask that you keep any spoilers out of this thread. Obviously, any of us can find out what is going to happen at any time, but I definitely prefer to just go along with the HBO ride without knowing what's coming and trying to compare it to the books.

I watch 'True Blood' without any interest in reading the books. I think I can do the same with this.

The whole brother/sister gettin it on story line is a little freaky - and a must watch in a twisted kinda way. I don't have a sister, and if I had an identical twin she would be smokin' hot ;D, but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be that close.

No spoilers, I don't think, but yeah. The books draw much more from the War of the Roses IRL than standard Tolkien fantasy fare.

I loved the pilot. It followed the novel (of which I am a fan) very faithfully and the casting of the Stark kids seemed solid. I'm curious to see how the young actors will fare, since so much of the drama is going to be carried by them, but so far there don't seem to be any obvious duds. I'm optimistic.

I liked it. I WAS NOT HAPPY that they killed the wolf at the end because of that douchebag prince. little nut licker. I hope how soon he dies along with his brother-****ing mother.

I have to assume that the red-headed daughter is going to suffer at some point for not having her wolf protector. But yeah, the sooner that snot-nose little prince gets it, the better. The little girl's little sword is going to come into play, I'd guess.

I'm still not clear why Lady Stark has such a deep hatred for Jon Snow, other than resenting him for existing. There's got to be more to it than that.

And Peter Dinklage is awesome. Tyrian Lannister is my favorite character thus far.
