(Sorry for the late post - I don't venture over into AnythingGoesville all that often.)

Got invited/challenged to do my first turkey trot 5K a couple weeks ago. Finished in 42:57. Managed to run at least a third of it or so, which counts for something considering my horrible physical condition and lack of training. (I just got a Y membership on Monday).

It was challenging to keep my spirits up after I got home. I was invited to somewhere, but they weren't serving before I needed to go in to work at 3:30, so I ended up at the community Thanksgiving meal, where I shared a meal with a not particularly talkative middle-aged man with long hair. Where being with family on Thanksgiving should be fun, this felt like I was just checking off a box. Second year I've been unable to go back to the homestead for Thanksgiving (though I was just there last week), though this is the first year I actually worked on the day and didn't at least see friends. Furthermore, any time food is involved, there are going to be thoughts that cross my mind for a while now as I try to stay on the fitness wagon through the holidays.

Work was OK. Actually a larger crew than I would have expected. Kind of slow. I was able to kind of keep myself rolling for most of the shift, but when I got home, I just gave myself a little time to reflect and I wasn't happy. Save for the run, yesterday was not a particularly enjoyable day, mostly because doing Thanksgiving by yourself isn't particularly enjoyable.

I always admired the way Americans did it up on Thanksgiving compared to us North of the border.

I think that because there are not as many stat holidays in the US that they get celebrated more.

Running 25 year old line amongst some buddies is any time Thanksgiving gets mentioned you have to bust out the classic Ice T line.

But I don't celebrate bull**** Thanksgiving
Sit up like some fool and eat turkey?
That's the day your forefathers jerked me

I went to a Target near by son's yesterday, figured what the hell? It was basically empty. In and out in 20 minutes and I got a new Keurig at a pretty ridiculous price. Plus I had a turkey sandwich later. Pretty good Friday

Went to a party at a neighbor's last night. Squash soup, ham sandwiches, and chips with a wide variety of dips, from pretty good guacamole to a really good cheese and onion hot dip. No shopping. That's what the Internet is for. Football and turkey leftovers tonight! Plus pie!!!

Just had turkey for breakfast.

Today might feature some yard work, or a trip to a basketball game, or both.

Going to share an experience for you. Five years ago I was going through a divorce and wouldn't have my daughter on thanksgiving so I went and ran a race at the beach. After the race, I ate some supermarket pizza with two friends who had timed the race, but left after the Lions game. I then polished off a 12 pack of beer...likely yuengling. Passed out and drive home the next day. This year, I spent it with my new wife, our kids and her family back at the beach. Ate an amazing southern style dinner, drank wine, and then plAyed the ugliest game of football ever.

So cheer up, thanksgiving will be fun again.

Thank you for providing some perspective. I apologize if my relatively mundane melancholy was an affront - I just have these short-term moods some times and occasionally seek social media therapy, which is not particularly wise or productive.

No affront! It just reminded how similar my holiday was five years ago, and how quickly life changes.

Just as a minor aside - I think it IS wise. It's better to reach out when you're feeling down than to keep it all inside and brood by yourself.
