I have to admit I'm surprised at the increasing number of complaints I've been hearing about fireworks on the Fourth. I don't know if people are just more sensitive to the feelings of vets with PTSD or pets these days or they just don't want younger generations to have the same kind of "fun" they had when they were younger.

I don't have a problem with the professionals doing the fireworks. It's the amateurs who are a few houses away from me that bother me.

I think assigning editors were thrilled to find a new story to top "AAA expects a record number of motorists this year" and went nuts.

I'm sitting here watching the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular over the Hudson River in New York, and just wondering how much must have been spent on those fireworks.

Millions, probably?

That wondered, it is a seriously spectacular show. A little tear- and choke-up worthy, even...

They're illegal in our city, but that stops absolutely no one. It wouldn't be so bad if people could just limit them to dusk to 9 p.m. or something, but of course not. It's 10 p.m. and my 3-year-old niece with sensory sensitivity issue is in her room bawling, begging her grandma to "just go outside and tell them to turn it off!"

Hope they all lose a finger.

Is it just that most people "grow out of the phase" while some adults don't? Honestly, you check o

That's you, all right! Maybe they were. I don't know. Honestly, I didn't think about that, at all. I just enjoyed the show. Damn me. :)

When we were younger, we didn't start shooting off the fireworks on Friday, June 30, and continue for five ****ing nights. No one's saying you can't have any fun on the night of July 4. Maybe even the night before. But this **** has been ridiculous.
