Doesn't bode all that well for the rest of the season; we're in late July and already up to four named storms, with the possibility of a fifth off the coast of Africa in the coming days.

South Padre Island is awfully vulnerable. And a great place to chill.

Having spent three years on the border, which spawned my alter ego, of course, Godspeed for all those kind folks in the Valley.

I heard on the news this morning that because a foot of rain or more is expected in some areas, officials are saying the levees there will not hold. I'm wondering if anyone learned anything from Katrina; you'd think people would be out of there without a second thought and there wouldn't be one person left within 50 miles of a raindrop, wouldn't you?

Isn't flooding a potential problem as the storm goes through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona? It's my understanding that those places are prone to flooding because of the terrain and the hard ground.
