The county is just about split 50/50 right now. And, while Obama is riding high off of killing Obama right now, he'll be back down to earth soon. The economy, jobs, gas prices, taxes, etc. will be the issues. Obama will have to run on his record and not his potential.

Oh ****. Well, now his post makes more sense.

I'd love it if Christie did, but I've kind of accepted that he won't.

I don't know a ton about Barbour, but I think he could make it interesting.

Paul Ryan. The Republicans are going to have to run on some version of his plan anyway, they might as well have him be the one making the case for it. I really don't get why he would run for Senate.

Jeb. If his last name weren't Bush, he'd be the frontrunner. We may still need him. He's probably the only one who could enter late & still raise the necessary money.

Rubio: He's already the frontrunner for 2016. He can articulate our message. With the current field, he might as well run now. Either he wins or he's set up even better for next time.

I'm curious who the other republicans on the board want to run.

I'd love it if Christie did, but I've kind of accepted that he won't.

I don't know a ton about Barbour, but I think he could make it interesting.

Her credibility is shot to ****. Her recent one-page slick-newsweekly interview, where she continued to sound above it all, woudn't admit/acknowledge a single error in judgment, and didn't deviate from her long-term enabling of Fredo, reinforced her laughingstock status.

I think the jump from Congress to the White House is too much for Ryan. If that jump has been done, it hasn't happened during my lifetime, even though I know he's very well respected among the republicans, I think he has to run for the Senate in 2012 if he's going to have any chance at the White House in 2016 or later.

I agree about Jeb.

I like Rubio a lot, but I think he's better off waiting.

If people are unhappy enough to make a Republican candidate in 2012 a winner, they will also be unhappy enough with incumbent governors to make them unviable candidates. So my guess is the GOP nominee will either come from Congress or the candidate with no government job division. Check out Christie's approval ratings. Americans aren't that ideological. When they're mad at the Ins, they're mad at ALL the Ins.

Let's see . . . an overweight (yes, I know he's made some progress in that area) pasty-faced career lobbyist who fails to see any chinks in his White Citizens Council history in Mississippi, running against a half-black man. Talk about not reaching out to the middle . . .

Going by the broad historical scenarios, this remains Romney's to lose, even though he makes much of the base cringe. Furthermore, he's vulnerable to gang-up tactics (as McCain and Huck executed with such vigor in '08). Pawlenty and Daniels remain social troglodites. IMO, the most attractive top-tier possibility the GOP boasts is Jon Huntsman . . . and one of his primary strengths is that he's not yet broadly-well-known enough for people to have determined just what they might hate about him.

Ford had the quickest jump from the House to the White House in recent history, but it really doesn't count if you were never elected. Senators haven't had much luck until Obama. The key is still through a stint as governor.

Absolutely. Ford woke up on third, thinking he hit a triple, and only had to assure one little thing in order to get the niche. Barring war-hero status, a viable governorship remains the best launching pad . . . and remember, when
Obama won as a senator, his primary nomination competition was another one, and he beat yet another one in November.

My vote goes to Ron Paul

Yep. Please run the guy who came out last week and said he wouldn't have voted for the Civil Rights Act. Pretty please. With sugar on top.

I'm sure the Tea Party is a big fan of Ron Paul, until he gets to significantly cutting defense spending or ending popular middle-class tax breaks.
