I don't normally do this but feel I must here. This has saddened me, brought me to tears. David hasn't posted much in years, has been out of the business. He's one of the best people I've ever met, here or anywhere.

When a bunch of people from SJ showed up in Seattle in June, 2008, he had all of us to his house site unseen and threw one hell of a party.

When my dog died, I heard from him right away.

When another poster's young daughter was in the hospital near him, he went to sit with her.

Just a month ago, he sent my daughter a book, and a nice note, as part of one of those Facebook gift exchanges.

Give if you can. If ever anyone was worth, this is it.

Holy ****. I'm generally a kind of cold-hearted *******, but this hurts. Yes, Dave welcomed us to his home (and man cave!) sight unseen, and he made some of the best bacon and cheese infused burgers I've ever had.

I'm donating now.

Man, his face looks so familiar, but I can't remember his handle for some reason.

I keep hoping for a recovery

Those burgers were the best I ever had.

I've tried to make those burgers several times, but they never came out as good as the ones David made.

Such sad news. He named my younger dog, Go Go Gadget, so I have a happy reminder of him every day.

From just less than $2,000 when I donated, the fund has grown to more than $4,200 with many of our current and former SJ members donating. I'm saddened that it takes something this tragic for our community to drop the political fighting and come together, but I'm heartened that we're still able to do that. It gives me hope in a season with too little of that commodity going around. Peace, Dave.

And, Moddy, thanks.

What I remember most about that Seattle trip is Dave being a gracious host, on a number of fronts. Sending all my thoughts his way.

Sad news. Always liked his posts. Hope for the best for him and his family. Donation made.

Damn, I feel bad and I didn't even make it to Seattle. Well at least I can send some SJ mojo. Get a miracle David and hope my little $$ helps.

Sounds like the chance for a miracle has ended. So damn sad.

I didn't know David personally, but we had a lot of mutual friends and one suggested I become friends with David on Facebook. Glad I did. What a great guy, only wish I did know him personally.
