Baseball is back in Richmond!

I wasn't around for the R-Braves' heyday, but how Richmond continues to get minor-league franchises in any sport when they all fail (true, baseball does better than hockey/soccer) stuns me.

Hot damn...

Little 93 will be old enough to catch an inning or two by then.

The bigger question will be "where will they play?"

The Diamond sucks and is in a bad part of town, and they shot down the sweet proposal in The Bottom.

This was the worst kept secret in Richmond.

The nice thing about the Braves was they kept bringing top players through. The former Braves are an impressive list. I do think the Giants will do just as well, though.

Richmond is a good triple A town. I think it's only a matter of time before the Nats make Richmond its AAA affiliate instead of Syracuse. Logistically, it would make more sense.

That does seem to be the trend these days so AAA players are a short ride away - hell, that's what got the Braves out of Richmond. Think it would be a good move for the Nats as well. Richmond has its strong share of Braves and Yankees fans (Yanks were the parent club before the Braves) but I would imagine a strong contingent could flop to the Nats, given a reason.

Two things me you want to see minor league baseball.

1. I want to see the next Kung Fu Panda up close.

2. I want to enjoy the experience with a nice ballpark and surrounding businesses.

Richmond does not give you the second, but they are trying. The Bottom is just a better option for #2. (That was for you Armchair.)

3. Reasonable prices for tickets, food and drinks.

The Diamond was dirt cheap. For $6 (or $8?) you could slap Andy Marte on the ass.

I honestly cannot remember the consession price.

I'd be willing to wager that beers did not cost $8 and that hot dogs did not cost $6.50.

I went to a P-Nats game a couple years ago and bought a box of popcorn for a buck. Tickets were like $5. Now, they have a "ticket for a dollar" night or something like that. I love minor league baseball. Loved covering wooden bat summer league back in the day, too. MLB? Meh. I enjoy it, but not nearly as much.

I'll definitely make the drive to Richmond for a couple games.

I can tell you it wasn't cheap. I mean, you could probably get Bud Light or something cheaper, but anything in a bottle was $6 or $7. I got a Yuengling. $6. Cotton Candy was expensive too (like $4 a bag).

Prices weren't THAT far down from the Nats game I went to a few weeks ago.

Well, I think it's horrible to charge $7 for a beer at a minor league park. Six bucks...that's right on the line. Five is what I'd deem not a dry rape.

You can get a 32-ouncer at the Frontier League park in Evansville for $4.50. But you have to use it to wash away the taste of the ****ty baseball.

With a 32-ounce beer purchased before the game, I wouldn't even realize there WAS baseball by the second inning. :D

Different sport, but this bar in Fairfax is a VT bar during football season. On game days, if you bring a VT cup, up to 32 oz, you get $2 beers. Three-plus hours of 32 oz. beers....debacle.
