Genesis reunites

Oh, for a discount, you can see a group out of Quebec called The Musical Box, a tribute band that redoes shows from the late Peter Gabriel period (1972-75). I haven't seen them, but I've read many raves about them. And right now they're touring North America with separate shows dedicated to the Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound tours.

I saw that Selling England show a few years ago. Its like going back in a time machine. The music is note-for-note, like an orchestra respecting the music of Mozart, and the lead singer channels Gabriel right down to verbatim between-song speeches taken from bootlegs.
The highlight is a perfect Supper's Ready, with three of them working 12-strings at one point.
Definitely worth checking out if you liked Genesis from that period.

And I'll never spend $250 to listen to ANYONE. Heck, I wouldn't spend $100 to listen to ANYONE.

Yes, BYH, I'm kinnnnda pleased. But while I'm a fan of all eras - I'll take what I can get - I do wish that Pete and Steve were also in this. According to some things I'd read, Steve was talking with them. Even if they could get only him and not Pete, it would be good. Their two albums as a four-man group - A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering - were easily two of their five best albums.

Bubbler, according to the AP story (I should know ... three people in the newsroom made sure I had seen it), Tony said they wanted to play plenty of the older music. I believe Tony, but am curious if there will be pressure to play most from their last two albums when PC was there (Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance).

HeinekenMan, I hope Federline was kidding. First of all, it's freaking K-Fed. Secondly, "In The Air Tonight" was PC solo. What was he going to try next ... "Living Years"? :

They get together for a new album and Euro tour every three to five years. They almost disbanded after Paul Young died, but Mike just gave all the singing over to Carrack.

Anyway, something tells me that this will lean more toward The Way We Walk tour of 92-93.

As far as age goes, I'm 25 (however, my wife swears I'm at least 32 in mind).

Anyway, something tells me that this will lean more toward The Way We Walk tour of 92-93.

Still do good stuff, but it fell off in overall quality after the first two albums, though.

The compilation album is very, very good ... only seriously missing track is "A Call To Arms." Then again, the writers for that one were some guys named Collins, Banks and Rutherford.

I'd pay up to 40 dollars to see this reunion show.
Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was always a cool song to me and yes, Duke and Abacab were part of my album collection during early 80s finishing of high school.
I'd love to see a Police reunion, too.
Bought a Widespread Panic CD today for $5.99, called Another Joyous Occasion.
That's the sort of music my taste has evolved to in the past 25 years.
Back in the early 80s I wasn't listening to the Dead at all. Now I do.
But Genesis would be worth my while to see.
I remember when Tony Thompson played double drums with Phil at Live Aid.
They jammed.

It's astounding to think how cool Phil Collins used to be, way cooler than Sting was on his coolest day. Brian Eno had Collins drum on a bunch of his early rock albums. He drummed on Gabriel's third album (the one with "Games Without Frontiers") and was instrumental (ha!) in creating the no-cymbal backbeat Gabriel wanted.

Plus "Easy Lover" (yeah it's credited to Phillip Bailey, but Collins co-wrote, co-produced, co-sang and totally drummed on it) is now the highlight song in the new "GTA" game commercial. Although that never struck me as a Song to Do Drive-Bys By.

I couldn't believe a GTA ad would ever work with "Easy Lover," but it's starting to work with me. All you need to know about Collins' sense of humor was the video to that track, where he and Bailey are laughing at the '70s-era Earth, Wind & Fire costumes Bailey, Maurice White and friends wore for concert tours.

Phil Collins was always gut-busting funny when the occasion allowed. Same with Mike Rutherford. Tony doesn't have that humor, at least overtly, but quietly goes with the flow. Hence the videos to "Land Of Confusion," "Jesus, He Knows Me," and "I Can't Dance." The last two were right along the group's humor line.

One of the underrated videos. Funny but heartwarming. How many other bands wouldn't have someone driven up the wall with children all over the place? The Pauls (Young and Carrack), Peter Van Hooke and Mike really seemed to get a kick out of the setting.

From what I've read and heard, that video and the scene with the child in "Living Years" is typical for Mike. Probably the type who volunteers to stay back and watch the kids while the others are out painting the town.
