Lenny Megliola, something of a Boston area institution as a longtime columnist for the MetroWest Daily News (Framingham) , has apparently been laid off by Gatehouse Media (http://medianation.blogspot.com/). The move was one of several taken by the failing company.
Lenny worked for that paper for at least 40 years, I believe.
That paper has already lost its pro hockey and football writers, I believe, and is now operating with part-timers, stringers and a full-time sports editor.
According to media blogger Dan Kennedy, there are more moves to be made by Gatehouse.

Has this been confirmed? He covered the B's last night. http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sports/pros_and_colleges/x1827106464/Megliola-Game-7-provided-plenty-of-drama

last note in Chad Finn's media col today in the Globe.
"Veteran MetroWest Daily sports columnist Lenny Megliola was among at least a half-dozen employees who were laid off by Gatehouse Media."

Lenny continues to write http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sports/pros_and_colleges/x72362848/Megliola-Sheer-will-only-takes-Celtics-so-far
Did they give him til the end of the month? Or was the original info bad?

Wish he would have kept his job in print because it would keep him off the airwaves. What Megs and Mike Adams do weeknights is an abortion of sports talk radio.

No need to take shots. The point is, a long-time, popular writer has fallen victim to the suckitude of the industry.

It was a shot, but underneath, there's a fair criticism. Probably a bigger statement about Adams' show than anything else. Either way, yes, major suckitude.

Don't think of it as a shot; I like to consider it a violent backhanded compliment.
I have a feeling a lot of the older writers that cover the major sports in the greater Boston area are going to be downsized and a big part of the reason it's them is their refusal to get back on the prep beat.

Not relevant. Lenny frequently covered preps. They simply wanted to dump his salary. Employers aren't going to tell older writers that they can hang on if they agree to cover preps. It's all about cutting expenses, not about what they cover.
