Sounds like a great place to be awesome.

I just heard about this. Has anybody heard of the "Center of Excellence?"

FAQ: GANNETT’S CENTER OF EXCELLENCE WHAT IS IT?

A corporate initiative to consolidate the customer call centers of the local newspapers into three specialized Centers of Excellence to handle inbound customer calls, for a variety of Gannett publications. Calls will be routed to the Center of Excellence in Louisville, KY. Gannett newspapers in Wilmington, Salisbury, Lafayette, Palm Springs, Visalia/Tulare, Binghamton/Ithaca/Elmira and Muncie have already moved their operations to the Louisville Center of Excellence.

Maybe I'm late to this game.

They tried out some different names, but "Center of Layoffs" and "Center of Budget Cuts" didn't have the same ring. Gannett is so deplorable it's disgusting.

Center of Excellence was a term that was in vogue around 1999.

Good to see they're only about a decade behind the curve.

Unfortunately, Center Of Dickheads was taken.

Rochester just moved its call center to the Louisville CoE this week on the heels of moving most of its accounting dept. to Binghamton.

It wasn't all that long ago that Rochester was still regarded as Gannett's flagship, even after moving corporate HQ to Washington, D.C. Now it's just a place where careers go to die.

Sounds a lot like the first annual Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence.

I always thought the DM Register was considered the flagship.

Centre of Excellence? Wow.

I wonder if they have a Mission Statement or Vision Statement?

Next step: Moving their copy desk to the Bangalore Center for Adequacy

And then they'll outsource it to a unemployed preps writer in Kansas.

Or Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good

I might have reason for a lawsuit here. I've always called my crotch the EPICENTER OF EXCELLENCE.

I bet we don't hate that name half as much as the people who work there.

So, let me get this straight, Gannett has:

Information Centers (not newspapers)

Centers of Excellence

and Regional Toning Centers (which is absolutely a ****ing nightmare)

And a previous publisher at our local Gannett shop once told me that Gannett was not "trying to reinvent the newspaper"

Does the Ghost of George Orwell do all their naming?

This is double-plus ungood.
