You guys were just so full of helpful advice last time, I figured I'd try again.

I'm in that pre-cold stage. Raw throat, chills and generally feeling icky. I'm not sick yet, but will be in the next day or so if I don't do anything about it.

I'm out of my prescription antihistamine/decongestant (Allegra-D 12 hour) and am too cheap to refill the $60 bottle. Are there any other OTC meds, beyond Claritin-D, that function the same? What else can I do to fend off the week of nastiness ahead?

I really don't have time to be sick right now.

Alcohol, followed by bed rest.
Repeat as needed

I'd take that a step further: get some packets of Emergen-C or Airborne tablets and use one in a large glass of water each day. It'll help.

Ginger ale, chicken noodle soup, Claritin-D.

Like duct tape, it fixes everything. :D

Lots of throat lozenges ... not only will it soothe the raw throat, but they also keep the nasal passages from stopping up.

Better yet, they don't interfere with whatever over-the-counter medication you may need to take from time to time and usually do a lot to minimize that icky feeling.

Get better quickly.

As for cough drops, I now recommend the menthol-flavor Robitussin drops. They're mediciny, but terrific.

Good advice. I do that, plus:

I see my doctor, who hooks me up to an IV with 10,000 CCs of Vitamin C, some B-12 and other good stuff. Seventy-five bucks, but well worth it.

And/or:

A hot shower, followed by Vicks VapoRub all over the chest, and a dab under the nostrils. Then pull on an old t-shirt, heat up some water for some TheraFlu, dive under the covers, sweat it out and wake up feeling better.

NyQuil. The nighttime sniffling sneezing coughing how the **** did I end up on the kitchen floor medicine? [/Denis Leary]

NyQuil: It's the 13th ****ing step! We love you, you giant ****ing Q!!!

But seriously...Coldeeze are usually effective.

Alas, I thought those things licked everything. But when I got sick last month, I went from a cold to bronchitis in a day. It was the ****tiest I've felt in a long, long time. Get well soon.

Yeah, I have asthma, so I'm susceptible to bronchitis/pneumonia, hence the wanting to knock it out early.

Plus I get to cover games outdoors for the next four days. It's damp and in the 30s. I'm sure that will be so helpful.

Oranges. *nods* I can do oranges.

Hey, can generic DayQuil make your arms really itchy? I had a cold a month ago or so and I bought some CVS brand ****, and the next day I couldn't stop itching my arms. A couple days later it stopped. Can bad generic DayQuil give you AIDS?

WTF? Who has outdoor sports in February?

Why... yes. Yes it can.

The daytime sniffling sneezing coughing how the **** did I end up with HIV medicine.

Lots of vitamin C, echinacea, orange juice, chicken soup, and zicam nasal swabs.

Oh, we've got tons. Soccer's been going for a month, now we've got softball, baseball and golf. Soon we'll be getting track.

I've got soccer tomorrow and then a softball tournament. I'm pretty sure sitting out at cold, rainy, windy soccer games brought some of this on.
