The spitball cover - from the 60s. First issue I ever read. When I left there, one of the young men on my team gave me a copy of it he found on eBay. About as nice a gift as I've ever received

The Miracle on Ice cover was indeed one of the greats.

I LOVED this one. After reading the story, I became obsessed with Indiana State and Bird.

This is the team that made me a college basketball fan. And this shot more than any sums up David Thompson at N.C. State. Still the greatest college player ever, IMHO.

We are now awash in highlights - few of which have the lasting punch of a great SI cover from those days. It had such power and ability to set the discussion when it arrived each week in the mailbox. In many ways, it's a great time to be a fan because of the availability of stories, stats and video. On the other hand, it's all the same and so little stands out.
