There was also that great Braves-Padres fight in the 1980s that started when Pascual Perez kept plunking guys. The best part was when Bob Horner, who was out with one of his many wrist injuries, came out of the dugout to stop Champ Summers from going after Perez. Horner had come down from the press box when everyone started throwing at everyone else just in case there was trouble.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any photos of that one through Google.

Let's tally the numbers: three hit batsmen and the three failed attempts by the Padres to hit Perez led to the benches clearing in the second, fifth, eighth, and nine innings. Thirteen players and both managers—yes, even the Braves' saintly manager, Joe Torre—were ejected. Five fans who joined the fun were arrested. Eleven players and both managers were fined. Four players received suspensions. Torre was suspended for three games. Padres manager **** Williams was fined $10,000 and given a 10-day suspension. It all resulted in an extremely coy box score and play-by-play description.

I remember watching that one live. I was too young to enjoy it (and Skip Caray's call), unfortunately.

Yes, Rambler, Tigers/White Sox at New Comiskey in 2000 was a classic - someone pours beer on a Detroit player and he revels in the attention.

My favorite classic fight didn't last long but in the 1977 ALCS - New York at Kansas City - Brett and Nettles got into it at third base. Still shocked no one was kicked out of the game.

The one in '87 after Eric Show beaned Andre Dawson at Wrigley. Show ran like a little ***** and the Cubs literally chased him into his own dugout ready to kick his ass. Dawson was down for a few minutes, then started toward the empty mound as soon as he got up.

I believe that was during Dawson's MVP season.

It also made the "Beanbrawl!" Cover of SI.

May 15, 1894 - In the aftermath of a fierce fight between Baltimore's John McGraw and Boston's Tommy Tucker in the 3rd inning‚ a devastating fire probably caused by a tossed cigarette‚ starts in the RF stands at Boston's South End Grounds during the 3rd inning with Boston up‚ 5-3. The fire destroys $70‚000 worth of equipment as well as the park‚ the only truly double-decked grandstand Boston would ever have. The fire spreads to adjacent blocks and eventually destroys or severely damages 170 buildings and leaves 1‚900 homeless. The team moves to the Congress Street ballpark for several months before returning to the rebuilt Walpole Street Park.

A bunch of things stick out about the George Brett-Graig Nettles brawl in 1977:

--It was Game 5 of the ALCS.
--Ron Guidry, seen backing up, gets in the middle and helps tackle Brett
--Chambliss and Munson joined the fray.
--It helped fuel the Royals-Yankees rivalry in the late '70s and early '80s
--NOBODY got tossed.

The video is great because you also get to hear Rizzuto, White and Messer call it and you see Billy Martin walking 5-foot-4 Freddy Patek away from the scuffle

I'd never really noticed Billy Martin with an arm around Fred Patek to keep The Flea out of the fight. Frickin' hilarious.

As I recall, after the Whiten - McDowell tilt, Stottlemyre went very high and inside on Frank Thomas. He'd throw at anyone.

Mike Sweeney vs. Jeff Weaver was a pretty good brawl. And didn't Torii Hunter once get hit by a pitch and then fling the ball back at the pitcher?

One I saw in person. Can't remember the exact date but it was in September 1976 at the Coliseum. A's and Royals. Don Baylor charged the mound after getting drilled by Dennis Leonard. Leonard ran off the mound only to get speared by Claudell Washington, who ran in from the dugout. And it was on. Some A's fans poured beer on Royals players in the bullpen, too.

Not as good as Braves-Padres but pretty wild to see one in person.

Me too. I don't recall specifics of the telecast other than Caray eventually seemed a little exasperated. Having stated that, he had some fun with it as well.
