Referring to a certain mile in the race is it Mile 17 or mile 17?

Example: Paul Tergat nearly threw up at Mile 23. Sort of like Game 1 of the ALDS. Or is it ...

In Charlotte's NASCAR stories, I always change "Lap 21" and "Turn 3" to "lap 21" and "turn 3."

We capitalize Turn but not lap.

We only do one marathon a year, so I don't remember. But I don't think we capitalize it.
