looking for a General Editor, Copy Desk. The ideal candidate will be an
individual who works with other copy editors in ensuring the overall
editorial quality and accuracy of ESPN.com content. Copy editors edit
and polish articles (including headlines, captions and link text), check
for accuracy, proper grammar, style and appropriateness. The General
Editor will also monitor copy flow and assignments.
The ideal candidate will typically have: 3-5 years of editorial and
reporting experience; basic competence in writing, editing and
reporting; a basic appreciation of popular culture, e.g. "what's
cool" and contribute an understanding of the tastes of ESPN's
audiences; basic news journalism experience, news judgment, and
understand assigned sport(s) from a journalistic point of view; have a
basic understanding of HTML and related web authoring tools and
software, particularly Content Editor; strong English grammar and
excellent organizational skill, particularly as it applies to grammar
and syntax; thorough familiarity with leading newspaper/magazine style
guides; familiarity with most major Internet search engines and fluency
in electronic newsgathering techniques, including quickly navigating the
Internet.
