This may be one of the few times in a while that a good portion of my state was upset that Irene was going to head to the east coast and not Texas.

A word to the wise: the flooding from the rain usually kills more people than the wind or storm surge. So don't automatically blow it off if it seems like "nothing happened" when the eyewall hits shore.

I hope Sean Penn comes by to rescue me in his row boat.

No word from Sean, but Kim K sends us her best.

Wonder if Obama will be calling his vacation short.
President Obama will likely somehow wind up being blamed for the storm.

Obama's Katrina.

If we get hit hard and Obama takes a long time to respond while watching it all from a plane, I nominate Rex Ryan to come out and say Obama doesn't care about white people.

Wish us North Carolina folks luck. Knowing how we are, the milk, bread and bottled water are probably all gone from the grocery stores by now. And the beer.

The bread, milk, bottled water, beer and batteries. And don't forget gasoline ... after all, it's not a storm aftermath until people have rubbernecked all over the place, even when the sheriff warns citizens to stay off the roads unless it's absolutely necessary.

It was a big problem in my corner of North Carolina in the aftermath of Floyd. It seems that this time of year - within a span of about two weeks, not the hurricane season as a whole - is when North Carolina gets popped. Fran in '96, Floyd in '99 ...

C'mon, Irene ... go away, eh?

I want ABC to check back Monday with the Jersey jackass they just interviewed at his beachfront home.

Jackass: "I don't care if the Governor orders an evacuation. This is my home. They can't tell me leave. I'm going to stay and protect it!"

Monday: "Glub, glub, glub," said local man.

Whattya going to do, dude? Stand outside your home holding a staff and screaming a very LOTR "You shall not pass"? And then get pissy when no one comes to save your ass?

Earlier today the local ABC affiliate interviewed a Jersey guy who was looking forward to surfing Saturday. RIP World's Stupidest ****ing Moron.

Looks like my mother-in-law is gettin the heck outta Dodge. My wife's folks live just south of Morehead right on the water (about a quarter mile off the sound) and are headed inland to my sister-in-laws. If the current path holds, their house should be OK because it's just going to get sideswiped instead of a direct blow and the barrier islands will hopefully keep the surge down.

Guy from the National Hurricane Center was on the radio this morning calling it a "once in a generation storm" for the mid-Atlantic. Giddy up!

That the one that carved the Ocean City, MD, inlet, separating it from Assateague?

Not sure about that, but he did say it carved some island from New Jersey.

BTW, the mayor of Ocean City ordered all package stores closed as of 5PM tonight to encourage people to get out of Dodge.
