Droid Incredible?

Oh, I know of Wirefly and Amazon as I frequent those deals quite often - even the free phone deals through Best Buy on Fridays. I'm not out of the loop as you think I am. I did entertain a Samsung Fascinate, root/jailbreak it and realize it wasn't what I wanted for a bit.

I've tried countless times for Verizon to cut me some slack and upgrade early but Big Red kept declining - even after saying I was going to switch to Sprint or AT&T. Well, it was cheaper for me to cancel and switch carriers, get the phone I've wanted, and do it for free (thank you fantasy football winnings /brag) instead of getting the Droid.

Oh, the Iphone is on VZW now!! No voice and data at the same time and still CDMA? Bummerrrr. (for now anyway).

Bummed not to be on VZW for the sole purpose of no free texting to friends on VZW. Thankfully most of my friends are on Twitter and it's just as fast - DMs and the such.

Ha. Actually, I'm the one out of the loop. I'd never heard of Wirefly until the other day. But yeah, the whole thing really sucks. My wife and I have been with Verizon since 2005, we don't have a problem signing another 2 year agreement and they STILL won't let us extend early. And they ain't budging. Bastards. Zippy chance I go to AT&T or Sprint. I like Verizon, dammit. ****ers.

Anyone have experience with the HTC Aria?

My father and I are about to upgrade to our first smartphones (mostly because his requirements for a phone are "it must have bluetooth" and "it must make phone calls" and I am cheap). We have AT&T and are happy with it, plus it's cheaper than the same plan would be on Verizon.

In playing around at the store, the Samsung Fascinate looks like the top of the line model, but it's huge. I would much rather carry around a more compact phone, and since i have little fingers, a small screen isn't a huge issue. My dad won't really use it other than to set up a weather and clock widget, so all he needs to be able to do is switch screens.

Any first-hand experience with the Aria out there?

Well, I'll throw out the obligatory check out the iPhone. I'm very happy with mine. Tho, AT&T is pumping out some really ridiculous phones soon - the Moto Atrix and Samsung Infuse 4G. Both are powered by Android and look awfully gorgeous.

I have an iPod Touch that I enjoy for media playing and just messing around online, but I am not into getting an iPhone. I'd much rather have an open-source system that doesn't think flash is the devil, and I want a little more customization than iPhones allow. They're great phones if you like Macs, but Macs and I tend to, er, not get along very well.

Thanks for the heads up on the new stuff though. We're not upgrading for another couple months, so those will likely be at least close to being out. Those two are little big for my taste but have lovely specs (though why anyone needs a dual-core processor in a friggin phone, I don't know. Buy laptops for that type of computing, people).

My friend has the Aria and she loves it. It's just a tad smaller than the Incredible but works exactly the same with most of the same features.

Buddy of mine has a Droid platform on Verizon. Says he doesn't have a data plan that allows him to tether with his laptop but is able to do it anyway on occasion.
I have Sprint and am going to upgrade my phone. Data plan will probably be the unlimited 69.99 deal.
Am thinking of getting the Crackberry Style (I like flip phones), the LG Optimus or the LG Rumor touch.
Can I get away with the same thing my buddy is on any of those platforms?

I have a Sprint Palm Pre with a homebrew mobile hotspot. You really need a smartphone to do a hotspot.

HTC Evo would be what I'd get if I were on Sprint. And yes, the BlackBerry OS is a lil behind what Apple and Droid are doing. Great for business/email/text/BBM, but that's bout it.

Which brings me to my point. Just what do you REALLY need in a phone besides what the Blackberry offers? It makes phone calls, does texting and e-mail very well, and the web stuff is passable.

I have had an iPhone, an Evo, and damn near every other type of "smart" phone, but there aren't enough hours in a day to use apps. Unless you are unemployed, or just enjoy ignoring the outside world, how do you find time to use dozens of apps?

Then again, I understand that people generally can't do anything without technological assistance any more. Like, say.... read a map.

I had a great salesperson in the store today while Ms. Slappy was upgrading her phone. She basically told me to stay on the Android, get the pdanet app and that will slide into my data plan to tether because I'm using an app.
