Apologies if this topic's been addressed, but has anyone seen Dooley lately?

Thanks,

Lugz

I just discovered I am in striking distance of Dooley's posting record, which surprises me because the last time I checked was about a year ago and I was barely in the top 10.

I am not sure how I feel about this. :D

Good idea Mizzou. If this doesn't get him back here nothing will.

I remember whe imjustagirl got to 50,000, you weren't far behind. I think you had been fourth.

I just want to know that Dooley is OK. I miss a lot on this board, but I can't ever remember him threatening to leave.

This was his penultimate post:

Merry Christmas to all my SportsJournalists.com friends! (All two of you.)

Don't you be working my corners!

Happy holidays to all, and Trooperbari's avatar and 21's pic were great presents from sj.

To which I respond, does this make me the village idiot and pervert?

Anyway, he sure didn't seem to be on the outs, so I hope he is OK.

Making a spectacle of yourself leaving the board is frowned upon, so I've heard numerous times.

There are quite a few "regulars" who don't post anymore, but if you go to their profile it will show they logged in a couple days ago. I know of one specifically who hasn't posted in almost a year, but was last here a couple days ago.

Dooley has not been here at all since Christmas day, so that seems curious.

I just hope everything is OK...

So do I.

Just sayin', if he decided to leave, he's under no obligation to tell us.

Agreed... Hopefully, that's all it is... But if you asked me to pick the least likely person on this board to go dark for over a month, I would have picked Dooley without hesitation.

How about a plume?

He's home finishing the foreword to "The Larry Smith Chronicles."

We know his penultimate post, but what was his last post?

Maybe he got a pair of heavy-duty, zircon-encrusted tweezers for Xmas so he moved to Montana?

That can not be your last post Dools. Sorry. At least make it a post pad.

I dunno. I was a regular on another board virtually from the invention of the Internet -- I was on it when it started as an AOL chat page and hung in for 15 years as it transitioned through three or four host services and incarnations, there were a couple database flushes along the way and over the years under a couple usernames I must have run up a total of 100,000+ posts (I think I had 30-40,000 on my then-current handle), and one day in 2010 or 11, I just walked away cold.

Wasn't in any big flame war with anybody or anything; didn't threaten to take my ball and go home, nothing like that, I just walked away. Nobody knew who I was IRL so nobody knew where to look.

I stayed away completely for about 2 years; didn't even open the message boards. Then I came back to lurk as an unregistered guest once a week or so. Every couple months, somebody would start a thread, "Whatever happened to {Starman}?" And nobody knew.

It was kind of funny and a little sad to watch.

So ... who knows?
