A newsside designer has given notice with no immediate prospects. Others across the newsroom are considering the same.

And get this: Today, on Grade the News, MediaNews VP Kevin Keane said there's going to be a centralized copy desk for all the Singleton papers in the Bay Area. That came as news to the rank-and-file in San Jose.

This after Carole Leigh had sent a memo to the newsroom telling it to focus on journalism and not worry about layoffs. Gee, besides the fact these people are human and kind of need money to function in a capitalist society and the fact that Carole Leigh wouldn't know journalism if it bit her in the butt, what isn't there to get?

Kevin Keane is coming off as nothing more than Lean Dean's henchman. No surprise there.
