i recently created a website for myself and i was lucky to get my first and last name as the domain name.

if you want, go through web.com, and the people there will help you set everything up and give you templates to get the website going. it costs me 10 bucks a month on the credit card and is so great to direct people to instead of throwing together clips packages for everything.

That's exactly what I did for my last two job searches. It's a hell of a lot easier to just email a cover letter with a link to Smokey33.com than it is to copy, print, package and mail stuff.

And you can get your clips to the hiring editor before those mailing stuff in can.

Yeah, you can do that. I have a pretty common name so I had to do my-name.net. It's still easy and it'll still get you there.

As of yesterday, I have a BLOG! which is independent of anything I do at work. Just something I thought would be fun.

I have my resume online through a simple geocities account (part of yahoo!).

They work.

I got one job by sending my link to the managing editor even though the job ad specifically asked for a hard copy of resumes.

I then got my next job in similar fashion. I inquired about the gig and sent along a link to my site. Then I officially applied via e-mail stating I'd send my resume UPS the next day. The managing replied "don't worry about it, we've seen your stuff."

My online resume has 10 clips, five samples of page design and soon will have a photos section. It also has my resume, with every single previous employer listed, including all print, Internet writing, radio and freelance gigs. And it has a feedback section where I've posted reference letters, letters from readers (good and bad!) and thank you letters from editors after freelance work.

Pages at geocities are pretty easy to build, it's sort of like using Quark.

Basic HTML is awfully easy ... plus I think it's good skill to have at this point.
